Great little place, fantastic location - Edit
Cute little place conveniently located inside the food court of Kyoto Tower. Small menu but everything is vegan. The staff were super friendly.
Read moreWent twice with my mum and tried both udon dishes, the curry rice and black bean porridge. Particularly loved the curry which was beautifully made. The tomato udon was really good as well. Would definitely recommend this place.

small menu, decent food. - Edit
This is located in the Kyoto Tower food court right next to the pancake place and is called Veggie Deli. Even knowing the name it was hard to find but the pancake place sticks out so there you go. I didn’t care much for my porridge meal but the noodle dish my girlfriend had was great. They had beer so that’s an automatic star.

Delicious and in a very convenient place - Edit
Been there 3 times as it’s in front of Kyoto Station. The place was a bit difficult to find at first but definitely worth it (just turn left as you enter the food hall, the place is now called ‘Vege Deli’). They have delicious traditional food, I’d actually love to have the sweet rice porridge as breakfast! But I actually fell in love with the vegetable soup udon with tomato! It has a delicate and subtle but mouth watering taste. Amazing service, food and price, a must if you’re looking for a vegan place in Kyoto!

NOW CALLED ‘KANNA’ (Vege Deli) - Edit
Owner told us as of the 30/11/17, they are now called ‘Kanna’ or Vege Deli. No longer is it called Ayuna (but still same place). We had the set menu and it was delicious! Awesome Japanese pudding with black bean and lots of little other items.

Great traditional comfort food - Edit
I’ve always wanted to try Japanese rice porridge and this was a great experience! I had the pickled plum dish and it was very tasty. If you like traditional flavors and umami this is a great place. You can also order sake and beer with your food.

Tasty Japanese - Edit
So good if you enjoy more traditional Japanese flavors. This is not ramen or curry it is very Japanese ume flavor. I personally loved it but your mileage may vary. Give it a chance though, the staff are very nice and it's at Kyoto Tower and can be accessed from the JR line.

interesting option near Kyoto station - Edit
The sole menu item is not really soup, it's lukewarm rice pudding which I was happy to try. The meal set includes various little pickles and optionally tea and a small dessert. Good option if you are interested in trying new Japanese foods. Not cheap but not bad.

personally didn’t really enjoy the food - Edit
Cute place, nice staff, but I personally did not enjoy the taste at all, and for 1000¥ you don’t really get much

okay and fast - Edit
The tablet with the food is, it seems, nearly always the same.
Read moreBowl with Rice soup/ Porrige and the topping that was chosen.
Tiny dishes with:
Sesame
Algae
Pickled radish
Pickled cuxumber
Soy sprouts
Silk tofu
Rice cakes
And dessert (if chosen)
The lunch menu was 1.000,- today including tea (Option A)
And 1.350,- including dessert (Option B)
(Both numbers including tax)
If you are not into the jelly, very sweet Japanese dessert you should skip that.
I liked it and it was ready immediately.
I don't know if I'm an especially hungry person, but I don't think it's enough food for lunch.
I'd recommend to have a back up snack with you.
If you are close or have just arrived by train you should go. From the station it'll take 10 minutes to get here.
Pros: fast, healthy
Cons: small portion, a bit boring

Rare to find (a) vegan here, tasty - Edit
The food is very nice traditional Japan food for a reasonable price (860 yen for the set menu). The set menu comes with Kyoto tofu, which is much more creamy and soft than any tofu I've eaten before. It's also in a cool spot, in a food hall under Kyoto tower (Kyoto Tower Sando) with lots of young people. I'd recommend going at night (not that I've gone during the day though), it has a nice atmosphere. Closes at 11pm.

Beautiful place, which the correct name is Kayuna, with a wide choice of dishes. Everything is vegan, without meat or fish or milk or egg, this is awesome!!

No soup for you! - Edit
This place does not serve soup. It's rice porridge or in Japan "Okayu" and also known in other Asian countries as congee.
Read moreThere are a number of different toppings to choose from to go in your dish and you can choose to have it as part of a set menu.
The set menus are the best value and come with a few things to turbo charge your Okayu with ; sesame seeds and seaweed flakes, as well as a glass of tea hot/iced, silken tofu and a few pickled sides. The larger set menu comes with a sweet bean seaweed jelly which was delicious.
They also serve beer and sake, to help take the edge off a long day of temple hopping and bike riding.
The food here is awesome , cheap and completely vegan. Definitely worth a look if you are in the area.
