A Cozy Vegan Gem (Closing Soon!)

VEGECAFE LOTUS is an absolutely charming vegan café set in a cute house with lovely wooden decking outside. I visited for breakfast, but unfortunately, due to being understaffed, they were only able to prepare for lunch, so I settled for a pineapple crumble cake and a soy latte—both of which were delicious.

The atmosphere inside is warm and welcoming, with a strong focus on a natural and sustainable lifestyle. Even the scents used in the bathroom are made from natural products! The part-time worker, Kai, spoke fluent English, making it easy for international visitors to feel at home.

One sad piece of news: the café is closing at the end of March 2025—not because of a lack of popularity, but simply because they don’t have enough staff to keep up with demand. If true, this is truly unfortunate, as it’s such a wonderful place. I really hope they can find a way to reopen in the future.

They have parking for about five cars, so if you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping by to enjoy their amazing vegan cakes while you still can!

Pros: Overal vibes , Cakes

Cons: It’s going to close!!!

A must visit vegan spot for everyone!

The cafe's atmosphere was very cozy and quiet, the staffs are very kind and attentive.

You can enjoy alone or with friends, they sell books and other stuffs related to health and ethical lifestyles by the entrance.

The lunch menu changes every 2 weeks, the time I visited was vegan Karaage(fried chicken made out of soy meat) set, added a dessert option with housemade vegan ice cream which was very healthy and tasty(they even invented the original gluten free cone!)

I would call their dishes as pieces of art, as you eat and being in the place you can feel their love and peaceful energy. I read the introduction info about their philosophy of wholesome lifestyle placed on each table in Japanese and really wished I could come here often.

Even you're not vegan or vegetarian, this place is for everyone who wants to eat healthy and get inspired to live well!

Don't forget to check out the store called "Genki Plus" which is just opposite of the cafe, owned by the same owner and you can get all the health related products!

Enjoyable experience

Went here with my host family. It was one of the only vegan restaurants here in this area! Therefore very happy to find such a perfect, healthy vegan experience.

I would give it a 5 star but for me, some of the food wasn't to my liking (I like cake with more sugar in it)

I would still recommend this restaurant!

Pros: lots of vegan sweets and meals, healthy and big portions , fully vegan restaurant

Cons: some cake might taste a little bitter -> no sugar

Amazing flavourful vegan food

I have been touring Japan for the past 2 weeks and found this excellent vegan cafe. I stopped for lunch at 1:50 PM and had their burger, spaghetti, maple ice cream. I was tired with bland vegan food all over Nagoya and found this gem a little far from the city. It was totally worth it!

Pros: Tasty vegan food, Many ice creams and cakes

Cons: Little far from Nagoya if you are travelling

An absolute gem in this area

Edit 7/2022: I'm still coming back to this café as much as I can. I have probably gone through seven point cards already.

2020: The atmosphere and service is great and the food tastes amazing! They are also promoting a zero waste lifestyle, even though it could still be improved. They have sets for breakfast, lunch, and a great variety of desserts (please note that they have paused dinner options since 2018/7 and they haven't announced when they will have it back yet). If you take a look on their blog, you can find out what the dish of the week is. Under "Access" you can also check the times for lunch and coffee. I'm happy to have found this gem! It's definitely not the cheapest, but it's worth it (for the dish of the week with a drink and dessert set I payed a total of 2000 Yen). I have a point card now and will definitely come here more regularly!

Perfect cafe for vegan

I go to this cafe 2times a month.
This cafe always serves a menu of various ideas macrobiotic meals.
Lunch set offers pasta, curry, hamburger and brown rice vegetable plate. Sweets and a vegan ice cream are also abundant.
"Vege Plate with Brown Rice" 's menu changes every 2weeks.
The dishes are lightly seasoned to take advantage of the taste of the ingredients, and uses organic vegetables and additive-free seasonings.
The sweetener uses agave syrup.
The atmosphere is very good.

Access: Take a bus from Toyohashi Station to “Iwatadanchi” (Platform 4). Get off at "Nakaiwata 3chome". Then walk 2 minutes.

Good food, great desserts

We ordered the set meal with veggie steak and the vegan burger, which were both delicious. But the desserts and lattes were amazing. I would come here just for the desserts and coffee.

Tasty lunch menu

I was taken here by a family member who knows it's hard for me to find vegan restaurant food in Japan. Lunch menu was tasty and had good variety. Desserts were good and the ice cream was delicious. Love the atmosphere. My 3-year old daughter enjoyed her lunch as well.

Pros: food, atmosphere, ice cream

Cons: location a little far from main train station

Diversified vegan food

Very delicious and they have many options of ice cream.
Beside of the restaurant, they also have a "natural store" which sells many things and also vegan products. The owner is very kind, very good service!

delicious

This place is crazy beautiful. [censored] the food is good. I had a burger and much of a friends bowl of spaghetti and meatballs. And also had chocolate cake. And also had a muffin. And also had a brownie. And also had ice cream from their extensive ice cream bar. And got two more muffins and a fruit bread to take out.
I feel ill, what have I done to myself.
No regrets. I'm going to eat another muffin now.
