Very Unique and Exciting Experience - Edit
While googling vegan food options in Tokyo, I came across the super unique restaurant (reservation only) and it sounded like something we just had to try! Monkey San is a very kind and sweet Vegan chef that is incredibly passionate about the food she cooks and prepares. Even though her costume is fun and quirky, she is a bit of an artist and I believe possibly even a culinary genius as some of the foods we were served were really delicious. She uses all locally grown and sourced ingredients to create her dishes and will explain what she’s serving while you eat!
Read moreHer cute little restaurant only seats seven people and you will get somewhere between 12 and 14 servings of a variety of hors d’oeuvres, appetizer, and small meal style portions. However, we were all super full by the 8th serving! The reason I gave it 4 stars was because about half of the food that was served was 10/10 delicious and the other half was just not quite to our personal taste. It was still good but more like 6/10 good. I believe every one has different preferences when it comes to flavor though. I would still definitely recommend this place if you are interested in experiencing authentic Japanese style vegan food. The dishes change, depending on what’s available in the market and what’s in season so everyone is served different meals and will have their own unique food experience!
Pros: Unique and fun way to enjoy vegan food, Chef was so sweet and friendly

Best experience in Tokyo - Edit
We booked into the monthly 12 course sushi menu for our last night in Tokyo of our honeymoon and ✨ D A M N ✨ that was a great idea. Chef is a one monkey kitchen/bar/social superstar. We were blown away by the whole experience. The food was phenomenal and chef talked us through the traditional methods used and which region each dish originated from. We asked chef to suggest sake for us and they did not disappoint. We tasted 9 different sakes each and floated out into the bright lights of Senso-Ji Temple. I highly recommend this culinary experience.

Amazing & unique dining experience - Edit
All the 5 star reviews weren’t wrong, this was a really unique and memorable dinner in Tokyo where we were served course after course, all small plates packed with flavour, by the amazing Monkey San who clearly cares a lot about the food, drinks and the guest experience. Great selection of drinks and a really nice convivial atmosphere with the other guests.

This is a must do experience in Tokyo. Easy to book in advance (pre payment required). Located in the cutest traditional Ryokan building. Tucked away but easy to find. Monkey-san is adorable. Explains each dish and the provenance of the ingredients. The food itself (14 courses!) is made with such love and care. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun. We also both did the sake comparison, which was great. If ever we are back in Japan we would come here again.

One of the highlights of my Japan trip - Edit
We had a great experience dining here. As Monkey san was on vacation, Cat san🐈⬛ was preparing the food for us. She was a great and funny host explaining every dish, what it is and how she prepared it. Every dish was very unique and delicious.

Besides the food the drinks were also very nice. In had the salted lemonade which was quite the experience.

Wonderful Experience - Edit
Made my reservation, paid, then ventured out to Veganic Monkey Magic for what would be a great experience. There were six of us in the entire restaurant dining. I ordered a sale flight which was good. Then, 9 courses came out one by one. The host, Cat San, did a wonderful job explaining each dish and keeping us entertained. Something I really loved about this restaurant is that they keep a map and ask customers to mark on the map where they’re from. I highly recommend this place for an excellent Japanese dining experience.

An absolute delight to enjoy a night out slow dinning in a cosy and intimate setting. Food was delicious and flavourful. Monkey-san retreated from the summer heat so Cat-san was there to serve out the dishes. Cat-san is a wonderful cook and host. Cat-san is friendly, and speaks good English. Best experience I have in Japan and I think it is possibly the best way to conclude my 3 weeks trip in Japan. Thank you!

Fun, Quirky, and Personal Experience - Edit
Veganic Monkey Magic is one of the most unique plant based experiences that you're going to find here in Tokyo, and well worth the money.
Read moreReservations must be made at least a day in advance via their Google form. Each person was ¥5000 for a wonderful vegan kaiseki experience inside a tiny bar that sits 8 people. Once a month, they offer a vegan sushi menu so if you're lucky to be in town for that, I'd definitely aim for that dining experience.
During dinner, you are served a number of kaiseki style courses that lasts for about 2 hours. It is expected that you order 1-2 drinks while dining.
We had some amazing vegan Japanese dishes with some of the highlights being the fried maitake mushroom and this wonderful miso soup to end dinner. Throughout the meal, the chef dressed in a monkey suit will continue to entertain and connect with you as customers.
I absolutely adored the experience and am so glad to have had this opportunity to feel the monkey magic.

Let the Monkey cook - Edit
Having lunch at this place was a real treat. What made it even better was that there were only five of us there, including yours truly. It felt like a small, cozy gathering rather than a crowded restaurant.
Read moreThe cook, dressed up as a playful monkey, added a fun twist to the whole experience. Singing, dancing, and introducing each course in character brought a unique charm to the meal.
We had a variety of small dishes served throughout lunch, and what I appreciated most was that before each one, the chef would take a moment to tell us about the ingredients and why they were chosen. It made me feel more connected to what I was eating.
The presentation of every dish was top-notch, and they even let us pick our own chopstick holders, which was a nice touch. I chose the Bananas.
While not every dish was a perfect match for my taste buds, most of them were pretty darn tasty. You could tell that a lot of thought went into creating this special experience.
As we wrapped up, our friendly host surprised us with a Japanese parody song, adding a warm personal touch to the goodbye.
They let me mark my visit by putting a dot on their world map, which was a fun little gesture.
And to make it even cooler, we could scan a QR code and get a sticker set of the monkey chef for LINE, which I thought was a neat bonus.
Some standout moments from the meal included the crispy fried maitake mushrooms, a croquette filled with a rich curry simmered using just vegetable juices (no extra water), a delightful vegan mascarpone, and tangy vegetables paired with crunchy onions that gave a tasty zing to the whole meal.

Best vegan food I've had in Tokyo - Edit
This was an amazing experience from beginning to end. The host greeted us with a chilled towel (a wonderful respite from the heat outside!) and welcomed us in. We were the only two guests there for lunch and we were treated to an entire 12 course meal. The dishes she served were authentic Japanese dishes that were naturally vegan and the host even explained where many of the ingredients came from locally in Japan. There were even a few interactive elements (we ground our own sesame seeds for a topping, chose our own chopstick holders from her collection, and mixed our own tofu soup) and a lot of very entertaining moments! Even at the end, the host walked us to the door where we said our goodbyes and thanked her for the amazing experience.

Great experience with excellent food - Edit
I came here on a Friday for a sushi lunch and was really happy with the experience.
Read moreAlthough on the pricey side (¥4500), I would say it's worth the money to enjoy really excellent seasonal ingredients prepared right in front of you by none other than Monkey Chef! She is friendly, funny and speaks decent English.
The place itself is super small and makes for an intimate experience (I went alone but still had a great time!)
The food differs every time she cooks, and I was lucky to get to try her sushi lunch. There were 6 sushis, miso soup, salads and a beautiful tapas style plate. I was super full by the end of the 2 hour lunch.
I also got the carrot juice (you have to buy a drink with your meal) and I surprisingly loved the flavour.
The lunch was a great way to appreciate tasty seasonal Japanese food done elegantly. She really highlighted the flavours of the ingredients perfectly with each dish.
Highly recommend (make sure you book a few days or weeks in advance with her online form! You also have to pay in advance)
Pros: Thoughtful and delicious Japanese food, Friendly and fun monkey chef! V unique , Beautiful space
Cons: Pricey but worth it!, Small venue so you can't go with a big group, Need to reserve in advance and pay online
