Really cute little place run by a lovely couple

Super interesting menu with options I’ve never heard of anywhere else - definitely worth checking out. I’ll be coming back as they had run out of the gnocchi. It was pretty expensive but it is on brick lane so to be expected

Pros: Unique menu , Lovely owners , Quick service

Cons: Sushi burger was very salty, No toilet , Expensive

Staff above and beyond. Food was ok.

The staff was super friendly and gave me the whole intro to the kimchi-basis of the restaurant. They also gave me samples of the different kimchi, which was delicious. Very good first impression. I got the sushi burger, udon bowl, and mochi. The mochi was great. The burger tasted good, but felt a bit uneven. Different bites had different flavors that didn’t seem unified. The udon noodles were disappointing, though. Perhaps they forgot to salt the broth or something, but the soup lacked any punch or flavor. I certainly didn’t detect the kimchi.

Fell in love with this place!

Thank to the Happy Cow app, I found this place when we were in Shoreditch and even if it's a little bit expensive, it's totally worth it!

The chef is adorable, the food is amazing (fusion of Korean and Italian food, definitely something you never tried before!) and everything is handmade! His wife has a diploma in traditional Korean medicine and she helped him to create healthy dishes and drinks. So you have different kimchi that you can try and then choose which one you want in your meal. You can also have one of their handmade kombuchas. And in desert you can have a traditional mochi filled with red beans purée and dipped in chocolate 🤤.

We also bought their recipes book where you can find all the meals they cook in the restaurant even all the kimchis. And the money they receive for the books, they donate it for an organisation! Love this kindness!

Well, I highly recommend this place! So happy we had the time to go there!

Some delicious offerings

Some not so amazing. The mushroom gnocchi was great. Loved the baby spinach with kimchi beside the pasta bake. The tomato sauce dishes were not so amazing. Staff and chef were super friendly, generous with samples, and really cool.

Best kimchi and mochi ever!!

All the food was really fresh and homemade, the kimchi was the best i ever had, the kimchi burger was really nice, the sweet sea salad was amazing, their kombucha is one of the best ones i ever had, we had the chocolate mousse and dark mochi as dessert and both were amazing, we were warned that the mochi is highly addictive and that turned out to be very true they were perfect and the owners are the sweetest they were very helpful and nice to us, they offered us some kimchi and really amazing turmeric bread as we were waiting for our dishes we will definetely come back when were back in london i highly recommend this place😄

Dark mochi is a must!

I was in the Whitechapel area and decided to try Vegan Yes because of the very unusual Korean Italian fusion cuisine - just the kind of innovative vegan food I was looking for! I had inari with green kimchi, toppognocchi, which came with turmeric bread and a tomato based sauce, dark mochi and also a glass of oat milk with some sea vegetable mixed in (?) (tasted similar to matcha tea). The owners were very friendly and helpful and provided a tablet so you could see pictures of the food to help you decide, although apparently I chose the most popular dishes (I think this was due to pictures on the window). The food was really tasty, I really liked the combination of the rice starch rods and gnocchi, which had a similar texture. However, the dark mochi was the highlight and absolutely delicious! It is quite a small place with only a couple of tables and bar seating and it was a relaxed, casual atmosphere. I'll definitely go back to Vegan Yes next time I'm in London.

Addition June 2022: I've been back and the food and service is still great! The kimchi is excellent.

Good but not cheap

Food was great and the couple running it and the staff are so nice. We had the kimchi lasagna and the gnocchi. Portions are on the small side and it is quite expensive, but it was a lovely experience nonetheless.

Not for me

Italian yes! Kimchi yes! Yes Vegan No!
Sorry to say Italian and Kimchi doesn't mix well. The Kimchi and seaweed was delicious and the Kimchi is great, but mixing the two really does work. Also the hemp sausages are gritty and not tasty. Such a shame as the owners are so lovely. But if I come back it will just be for the Kimchi and seaweed. Also I do think it's overpriced and not customer toilet. Shame

Pros: All vegan, Good kimchi

Amazing fusion restaurant that works

Tried the gnocchi and rice cake fusion dish which was amazing. All homemade food including the bread. They cook the tomato sauce for 7 hours and it’s shows. Really friendly owners as well have us free shots of kombucha and free kimchi

Awful service, lack of basic facilities

No customer toilets— not only inconvenient but actually illegal for a restaurant in the UK. Bad service, the waiter (who is also a co owner I believe) was rude and unhelpful throughout, telling us off (maybe jokingly? It didn’t come across that way) for for borrowing a menu from an (unoccupied) table, fetching our own water. Muttered something, turned his back on us and walked off when we asked about ordering drinks.

Worst was at the end — we asked to split the bill between 2 people, pretty standard request even at smaller restaurants, and he basically refused, telling us one of us should pay the other back as ‘it would be easy for us’ and otherwise ‘he has to pay 2 fees’. it isn’t— bank transferring is a bit of a faff and one of us isn’t with a UK bank, which made it harder— and surely it’s standard for even smaller restaurants to let you split the bill, especially these days? I noticed on Google reviews he’s pressured other customers into going to get cash to pay rather than let them pay by card. If the card payment fees really are too much for you to deal with as a small business, announce that you’re cash only clearly on the website and outside! But if you have a card machine, let people use it to pay please!

Food was just fine, not nearly special enough to make it worth putting up with the bad service. It tasted like a decent but standard udon soup, gnocchi with tomato sauce, etc. The ambitious concept wasn’t reflected in the flavours, and some of the mains were also a little on the expensive side for what you got.

It’s a shame as We were so interested in the fusion concept, homemade kimchi etc. Even tempted to report them for the lack of toilets as that IS illegal as well as just being v inconvenient at a sit-down restaurant, and even more so for those with disabilities, certain health conditions, on their period, with small kids, etc. Just totally unacceptable—I do not think a place like this is worthy of 2 stars just for being all-vegan anymore. This is a 1-star review.

UPDATE: I left a similar review to this on Google maps/reviews, to which the owner replied with some nonsense doubling down on the lack of toilets being fine, and saying it is ‘easier’ to divide the bill ‘between private individuals’— for them maybe, for us no! I think it a v bad sign when owners respond to public reviews in this antagonistic way, especially when (as he acknowledges) everything in mine was truthful. What a mess!

Pros: All-vegan, Interesting concept that doesn’t follow through

Cons: No customer toilets— v inconvenient and illegal. , Bad service, rude and unhelpful, Food just okay, some mains surprisingly expensive

Original and tasty

I found Vegan Yes on HappyCow and I decided to pay it a visit for a lunch. The combination between Italian and Korean cuisines is really fascinating and this place surely deserves credit for that.

As I was not familiar with the menu I asked the owner to recommend their most popular item in the menu and I was not disappointed. The Kimchi Bibimbap was really good. I also ordered a dessert which looked better than it tasted but it was ok.

The customer service was friendly and efficient as well which is great. Unfortunately the restaurant is very very small which is not ideal but that’s the case with most of the restaurants in Brick Lane.

Overall, a very positive experience. I would definitely recommend this place and I will certainly be back soon.

Pros: Great combination between Italian & Korean cuis , Customer service

Cons: Very small premises

Nice 100% vegan Italian and Korean restaurant

This is a 100% vegan place. The owners are a couple (Korean and Italian) so the menu is a combination of the cousines. The food is nice and healthy. Especially if you like kimchi it is definitely your place. You can find there everything with kimchi, lots of innovative ideas. Such as kimchi cocktails, kimchi kombucha, kimchi lasagna, kimchi gnocci but also there are regular plates such as burgers, seaweed salads etc.
The only downside is that if you are not a big fun of kimchi or you are not too willing to try new things you might struggle.

Pros: Healthy food, Nice innovative food , Nice location- easy acccess- very friendly staff

Cons: The only downside is that if you are not a big fun

Great Food

OK, so the food here was definitely 5* but first the negative. It was one of the most cramped places I have eaten in, and with only 3 tables it was just too tight.

Also, they would not let customers use the toilet, as you had to go through the kitchen to get to it.

Provided you have a sizeable bladder, or can cross your legs for long periods of time, then I would recommend this place. I had the Kimchi Tempa, whilst friends had Kimchi Burger and the Naples Kimbap. We were all impressed. We then shared the chocolate potato pudding which was very weird, but also nice and moorish too!
