Really good vegan food in Funchal - Edit
Found this place on Happy Cow while traveling in Madeira. We came with our tour guide (non vegan) who was kind enough to have lunch with us. We loved the nourish bowls and risotto. Great option in a place where veganism is not popular. Glad we found it.

I was determined to visit this place while in Funchal as one of the few entirely vegan establishments and it didn’t disappoint. I had the Umami Burger and my partner had the Surprise Burger. Neither disappointed and the fries served alongside were heaven.

The food is freshly made and tastes good. As a dessert they offer a chocolate brownis which is so good that you want to order another one instantly.
The only downsides are that the food could use a little bit more spices and one table outside is located directly beneath the air condition exhaust, so you are sitting in a stream of hot air.

This place is great for vegans who are fed up of the usual limited options available elsewhere. I was spoiled for choice but not disappointed with my eventual choice. I had gnocchi with smoked tofu & vegan Parmesan cheese in a green sauce. The portion was just enough and served quickly. We also treated ourselves to the passionfruit cheesecake which is the best vegan dessert I have had in Madeira.

Read moreI felt very lucky that the hotel we were staying in in Funchal just happened to be a short walk to Mundo Vegan, the only all vegan place on the island of Madeira.
We came here three times during our visit, for lunch, takeaway coffee, and brunch. I enjoyed my risotto (never had black olives in it before!) but it felt strange to be eating such hot food (like still steaming even by the end of it) when I was so hot myself. The takeaway coffee was good but be warned in Madeira they tend to charge extra for a takeaway cup. Brunch was a feast as we ordered the breakfast of champions - definitely not cheap at €23 but our table could barely hold all the food and drink! Highlights for me were the fried mushrooms and the smoothie. The decor here is also really lovely and the terrace is very colourful with flowers.
Downsides would be that it was expensive, and I was melting without any air conditioning (or fans that I could see).
Definitely recommend!

A Lovely Vegan Find in Funchal - Edit
We visited Mundo Vegan three times during our stay in Funchal and really enjoyed it each time. The food was very tasty. We especially liked the starters such as the mushrooms with chimichurri and the hummus, as well as the Beyond Meat burger. The atmosphere is lovely, relaxed and welcoming, and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended.

This is the only fully vegan restaurant on the island. We went there 3 times in the course of 10 days. There is enough variety on the menu and the prices are okay for vegan food. Portion sizes differ though. They have changing desserts. Check opening times before you go. They are closed two days a week and take a siesta.

Took my family for evening meal when on holiday. Everyone enjoyed their meal, even the meat eater, who gave an 8/10 for burger and loved the chips.

Great decor and loved the bathroom.
Sadly they ran out of brownie so didn’t get to try this. Fast service and meal came quickly.
Not the most tasty vegan meal I’ve had but grateful to have this choice in a city where there are few vegan options. A little more work on improving flavours and presentation and I would give them 5* but I was not disappointed.

The gnocchi with pistachio sauce and pistachio ice cream were definitely one of the best things I've ever had. Came back for curry, which was not spicy enough for me, but still tasty. Really big menu, including a large choice of ice cream and other desserts. Cozy tables on the patio and two floors inside, so you definitely won't have to wait for a table. They even sell some beautifully embroidered t-shirts and hoodies.
