MUST READ... - Edit

This restaurant is super cute but very small. We waited for over an hour in the cold on a weeknight before being seated only to find out they had ran out of every option on the menu but 1. So we obviously had to choose that dish. In saying that the food was absolutely delicious, truly great vegan ramen and I would highly recommend food wise if your up for the wait. The staff are otherwise very friendly!

Cons: long wait time , small

Best Vegetarian Ramen - Edit

This was a little hard to find but absolutely amazing. I've had vegetarian ramen before but nothing like the ramen I had at Towzen! I had the musashi ramen, with rich broth and it was unlike anything I've ever had before. If you're in Kyoto and looking for something to eat, I highly recommend you stop in at Towzen!!!

Worst Dining Experience at Dedicated Vegan Restaurant - Edit

Would give zero stars of it was allowed. We waited outside for over an hour in very cold weather to be seated. They did not allow us to wait inside even though there was an empty table for a reserved party. Service once inside was extremely slow, taking over 30 minutes to serve ramen, which typically has a service time of less than ten minutes. The food was uninspired and tasted only of sweet soymilk. There are better choices even within Kyoto. Dessert was similarly bad: cake was dry and ice cream was grainy. Perhaps the worst dining experience I've had at a dedicated vegan restaurant, ever.

Pros: none

Cons: slow service, bland food

delicious filling ramen - Edit

This ramen was a bit out of the way down a little alley but worth the trek! Super creamy soup with noodles, customizable spice/richness levels and lovely owners. Gives a nice change from most of the soy broths I’ve had in Japan.

Pros: price , different style of ramen to most

Cons: location

Fantastic! - Edit

Visited twice on our recent trip. A little bit of a trek to get there, but well worth it. Really excellent ramen noodles, and it was good to be able to choose our spice level. Also best vegan ice cream I've had. Well worth checking out if in Kyoto.

Pros: Really tasty food, and won't break the bank.

Best vegan ramen? I’m going with YES! - Edit

So good. I don’t know how they make the soy cream broth but it’s amazing and does not taste like soybeans at all, just a rich, creamy broth. Almost like a loose Alfredo and I didn’t even order the extra rich option! If you are a fan of ramen this place is a must.

Pros: Delicious cream broth, Customizable size and spice level

Cons: I am not there right now

Great place. Awesome food. Friendly staff - Edit

We got there about an hour before closing and the staff was at the door to greet us. The food was delicious. We ordered each an M size lamen and it's so much bigger than I thought it would be. So yummy and rich. They called us a cab on the way out and made sure we waited inside where it was warm and cozy. :)

Wonderful Atmosphere - Edit

A neat, small place, a bit hidden. Was really quiet and empty when I was there.
Ramen were delicious!
Seems like they canceled the "non-vegan egg-noodles" - not sure if only temporarily.
Even though the price range is 850-2000 Yen, a standard portion (~1000Yen) might leave you a bit hungry.

Pros: Place to be!, Friendly staff, Delicious food

Cons: Meal size compared to price

Ramen dreams are made of - Edit

I'm terrible at remembering to write reviews but the food at Towzen Ramen was so outstanding I must tell the world. I would never have known that soy milk would have been the key to getting the vegan broth as rich as its meaty cousin, but it totally works! Most importantly though were the noodles. Despite that they were made without eggs they were chewy and dense the way ramen noodles should be. Honestly I used to live in Japan and since going vegan I've really missed this wonderful dish. This is the first time I found the real thing vegan style. I'm so happy that this restaurant exists. I know it's a bit far out, but DO NOT MISS this place trust me!

Pros: ramen from god , nice staff , heavenly vegan sushi

Great! - Edit

I just finished off my best vegan meal in Japan at this place!
The restaurant is a bit difficult to find, I took a 30min busride from Kyoto station but it was totally worth it! For those of you who, like me, also wanted to go to the Gion area, it's the same buss so this would be a great pitstop on the way.
The restaurant setting is a great mix of traditional and modern.
They have 3 types of vegan noodle soups, where you get to choose the noodles, topping and size - biggest bowel cost 1050yenThey also have some dessert and some set meals.
However you should know they have a small siesta so the working hours are 11:30 - 14:30 and then open again 18-21:30.

Pros: english menue
