The BEST vegan deli - Edit
I heard so many great things about this place that we had to try it. It's small but has very steady traffic and it's so nice to see so many people enjoying vegan food! They have a grab and go refrigerator with pre-made, snacks sandwiches, drinks and desserts. There are more snacks and condiments spread out throughout the store as well as vegan dog food and snacks.
Read moreEven at the busiest time (while we were there) service was quick and friendly. Expect to take your food with you to eat somewhere else as seating is very limited. We lucked out and grabbed a table just as we were about to go back to the car to eat.
I make my own vegan salami sub at home and it is a huge favorite of my family and my non-vegan co-workers. The one at Vegan Picnic takes it to another level with their challah bread! I had the spicy "chicken" sandwich on the same bread and it was also very flavorful with the sriracha mayo!
We also shared a grilled cheese because they use Follow Your Heart cheese and we had to try it. It was nice warm and melty as expected!
We took home a couple of Bavarian cream filled donuts and they were really good. It did take eating about 80% of the donut before we got to the cream but it was still good.
I was pretty disappointed with the number of actual 100% vegan restaurants in San Francisco, but this place more than makes up for it. It will be our go to from now on and we expect to stop by before making the drive back home tomorrow.
Pros: Fast, friendly service, Great selection, Great flavor
Cons: Could use more seating

Great food. Just a bit pricy - Edit
The customer service was amazing especially during this shelter in place. I ordered a “meatball” sandwich and it was a bit small for the price. But it was also a lot of heavy food so it probably did not to be quite so large. There cinnamon roll was amazing! But the grilled cheese was disappointing. It was basically the vegan cheese between a basic sesame bun anyone could find at Safeway. I would have saved more by making at home! But it was still decent overall.

100% Vegan, but with loud music - Edit
If you are looking for healthy food, avoid this place (if you order anything from the “hot” menu).
Read morePeople who run this place are really nice, but because of the loud music it’s really difficult to communicate with them. Also, it’s nearly impossible to talk while dining. I don’t understand the concept of this place, as there is only 6 places to sit. I guess people just grab their order and go home.
If you order online for the first time you get $3 off :-)
Overall, this was our first vegan American experience and it was... average, although the prices are nice and closer to what we usually pay in Europe.
Pros: 100% vegan, People who run this place are very nice, American food
Cons: Music too loud, Unhealthy food = too much mayo, vegan cheese etc , American food = unhealthy

Not Impressed - Edit
Went in very excited to eat breakfast here. Got chicken and waffles. It was two Eggo style waffles with a Boca patty inside. Guess I hoped for homemade. Wasn’t anything I’d suggest to try. However, I sampled their meatballs and they were very good. Maybe I just picked the wrong thing...

They have 2 locations in SF, the staff is nice and the food is tasty, just a bit expensive for what it is, it’s basically Gardein made fancier. They have a deli with vegan candy, vegan cheese and just egg.

worth the hype - Edit
keep in mind we only went one time but it was fantastic. we were greeted by nice people who offered us a meatball sample, we found some cool vegan productz we enjoy like vegan robs and hippeas, and then we ordered. my girl got the waffle chicken sandwich with some sort of sweet mayo and i got the vegan ham cheese croissant with some extra salami. it was my first time having a croissant since being vegan and it tasted exactly like what i remember a croissant to taste like. my girls waffle chicken was dabomb.com it was really really good and we both loved it. the service was really nice and yeah, just overall really satisfying😄we will try to go again im only here for like 2 more days

Wow!! If we only had this back in the UK - Edit
What an amazing eatery!! We were welcomed and able to sample a few delights before I settled on a Maple pb banana waffle, Chicken Waffle for my vegan husband and my brother (who is a herbivore) had a breakfast waffle. Each one was a culinary suprise and a delight. The servers were friendly and very helpful. Definitely coming back for breakfast in the morning, and lunch and the following day... if your in San Francisco this is definitely a must visit!!

Not impressed, slow staff, disappointing food - Edit
We went to this location on a Sunday and we're not impressed.
Read moreThere was a line however it wasn't terribly long. We had to wait forever to order and then to receive our food though bc the staff was so slow.
When we went to the front to order the lady taking orders was very short with us. We were reviewing the breakfast menu for less than 30sec because they only have a small sign for the breakfast menu at the checkout bar.
Then we ordered. My partner got the VP breakfast burrito 🌯 and then I asked for the breakfast sandwich. The lady repeated "breakfast sandwich?" with an attitude.... There is only one breakfast sandwich... I then repeated and pointed to the breakfast sandwich on the sign. She said ok and input it.
Ugh... Eyeroll...... know your own menu and don't get snarky with customers bc of your own ignorance. Really disappointed by her behavior and the customer service we received.
They should also have a more accessible breakfast menu for customers, rather than just the small sign.
She then took forever checking us out. It was weird how slow she was bc it seemed like she was the owner. She seemed to have trouble knowing where buttons were for checkout or how to use the system.
The other women working did seem to be more customer service oriented and also faster.
$11.75: VP breakfast burrito 🌯: okay not amazing
$10.75 Breakfast Sandwich: Not very good, wouldn't order again.
Overall for the price these items weren't worth it.
Based on our experience and the reviews, there are some items on the menu that are good and others that are not. That best explains the inconsistency in the reviews.
Parking is a pain. You have to find street parking.
Seating: don't expect to find seating. It's a very small space with few tables
Cons: Seating , Parking , Pricing

O...M...G - Edit
This place was soooooo delicious! I was visiting San Francisco from New Jersey and stopped by here. I got the Cesar salad, spicy chix sandwich, grilled cheese and cheesecake. It was all so good I still think about it. My friend who is a huge carnivore loved the place too so that made me happy. My only complaint about this place is that there are no restaurants on the east coast 😭

WOW! We grabbed 5 different sandwiches and drove across the bridge for a little picnic lunch. Each sandwich was absolutely awesome in different ways. Pasta salad was just good and cole slaw was on the bland side. Cute store too.

wanted to love it! - Edit
it’s basically reheated frozen food. we had three burgers: beef tip, crispy chicken and the fish. it’s on a chewy reheated roll with a flavorless dressing g and iceberg lettuce (all 3 burgers) in a painfully small portion for over $10...if you like fast junk food from the freezer, come here. zero nuance or creativity involved. 3 stars for being vegan...
Read morePros: offers pastries and donuts, sells vegan foodstuffs (pasta, chocolate etc), breakfast all day
Cons: expensive for a small portion size, uncreative and flavorless frozen food, good luck with parking.

Vegan Picnic - Edit
I ordered the vegan steak tips sandwich and my dining partner ordered the crispy chicken sandwich. Interestingly enough, I really did not like the steak tips sandwich and my partner did not like the crispy chicken sandwich, so we switched. The sandwiches come with what seems like a lot of bread, but it's very airy and squishes down to normal. The flavor of the vegan chicken sandwich was good, but seemed like something I could make on my own...and the chicken wasn't really crispy. The pasta mac that came with the sandwich was very small, they should consider making this a larger portion or eliminating it altogether, as it seems cheap to have such a small side. Overall, the cost versus value was off to me. I'll give this place another shot, but I'm not running back any time soon.

Not that great - Edit
If you like frozen Pre-packaged food, and a ton veganaise put onto some bread then this spot is for you. I get it, there are a TON of junk food vegan spots out there in SF. This is one of them and you might like it. A lot of people do. What’s not to like, it’s oil and processed food. However, if you prefer freshly made food, that isn’t overly oily or salty, I suggest you go somewhere else. Also, this place is really pricey for what you get. (They charge up the [censored] probably because of the location.) In addition to your sando, you get a spoonful of a choice of some sort of salad... I think they should make the portion of your side bigger considering how much you pay.

Me decepcionó - Edit

Delicious and interesting food, fantastic service - Edit
I arrived in San Francisco last week, and wanted to go out to eat with a friend. We saw that Vegan Picnic is around the corner from my friend's house, got high reviews here, and was now open for breakfast. So off we went -- and it was a great decision. (Note: They open at 9 a.m. on weekdays, although the Web site still says 8 a.m.)
Read moreI had just gotten off an international flight, and thus ordered two different things: Their breakfast burrito and a ham-and-cheese croissant. The burrito was out of this world delicious. The ham-and-cheese croissant was fun to eat (as someone who hasn't ever had ham), and was certainly good enough, but didn't quite knock my socks off. My friend was delighted with his sandwiches, and got a baklawa dessert.
I returned to San Francisco earlier today, and we agreed that we would return to Vegan Picnic. The bad news: Their power was out! The good news: They could still make any of the cold sandwiches. (They also suggested going to their second location, but we decided that cold sandwiches would be more than sufficient.) Once again, the food was satisfying and delicious.
I can't complete this review without saying something about the service in general, and the owner in particular (who happened to be there both times we were there): They went out of their way to make sure we were happy, comfortable, and satisfied.
Bottom line: If you're in San Francisco and are looking for vegan food, I'd definitely suggest stopping here. Great food, good prices, terrific service -- what's not to like?
Pros: Great food, Amazing, friendly service
