Excellent Vegan Food!

I loved this place...the food and service were exceptional. I had the Jack's Sliders and lentil soup. Both were so tasty and delicious, I really wish this place was where we live. My husband had the Avocado Tempeh Melt and he said it was the perfect vegan grilled cheese experience. The people were very friendly and efficient. Prices are reasonable considering where it's located. Both of us highly recommend this restaurant!

Pros: Delicious food, Fast friendly service, Prices reasonable

Cons: None

Tasty but simple dishes

Great ambiance and very clean restaurant with great service.

However, I found the menu options nothing special and quite pricy for what you get.

I felt like I paid for the service and ambiance rather than the food.

Great to have tried, but prefer other vegan restaurants in Honolulu.

Haute Cuisine

I ate here every day for the week i was in Honolulu (sometimes twice a day). It's a 30-40 minute walk from Waikiki. The restaurant is modern, clean with good service. The food is inventive, fresh and well-presented. Daytimes there's a ladies-who-lunch ambience to the restaurant.

The bowls are fulsome and tasty. The Da Nang bowl was full of flavour as was the Coco Lagoon. The nachos were good. The mushrooms were, perhaps, too subtle for the oily batter.

The peanut butter smoothie is devilishly sweet. The desserts seem to all have the same pie base with different fillings on different days eg. choco/banana, macha etc. They are all creamy.

Warning: I had the Breakfast Plate on the weekend brunch menu, it was terrible. The much-lauded pancakes were fluffy, yes, but tasteless, the tofu scramble was watery (the worst i've had anywhere) and the two slivers of tempeh were tasteless. The handful of greens and some baked potatoes did not add up to a $17 meal. It was a rip off when a meal here per person can add up to $40+.

Otherwise, it's probably the best bet on Oahu if you're not on a budget.

Pros: Fresh, inventive meals, Clean, modern environment

Cons: Expensive, Breakfast Plate

Best vegan pancakes

My husband and I walked about 3kms to find this place and it didn't disappoint! There service was just as amazing as the food! It was so hard to decide what to eat but we both went with pancakes and a side of tempeh bacon. It was one of the best pancakes I've ever had. I can't wait to go back and try more off the menu. If you are vegan you have to check this place out.

Pros: Top notch vegan food. Awesome service.

Great brunch

I’ve been craving fluffy pancakes ever since I went vegan and Vegan Hills delivered! The bagel sandwich was so good and the service was pleasant and fast. They also have great drinks! Definitely will be going back.

Nice dinner great service

Great food selections, the nacho were good and the service was wonderful. The chili and rice bowl was very filling as they give large portions.

Pros: Great service, Parking lot in the back of building , Tasty food

Cons: A little bland, more salt for chili, Cost is a little high for meal, Not a lot of entree choices

Looks better than it tastes

Hipster feel, classy ambiance but you pay for it. Pancakes were large and fluffy but “lilikoi” sauce was more pineapple and just ok. Benedict looked nice but tasted ok. Very similar to the Brooklyn bagel except had avocado and veggies. Both would be better if the bread at bottom were toasted crispy for more texture. Chili was kind of bland. Potatoes good texture but not as spicy or cheesy as we had hoped. If you like mild flavors then you’ll like this place. Felt overpriced to me.

Pros: Cute ambiance , Vegan brunch!

Cons: not bad but not super yummy tasty , Overpriced

Overpriced

Tried this place twice and found it to be
* Overpriced
* Lacking in flavor
* Noisy
* Slow service

The bagel with lox and cream cheese sandwich didn't taste like lox and cream cheese - it was a paste that had a smoked salt flavor.

Amazing!

The first time we went was for brunch and let me tell you this place did not disappoint. My husband ordered the special, which was the vegan Eggs Benedict. I ordered the Strawberry Princess which was pancakes with strawberries, strawberry sauce, and their house made whipped cream. I also asked them to add chocolate sauce for good measure.

We absolutely loved our meal. Plus, the meal was beautifully plated and displayed. You can tell they really care about the food they are serving.

Vegan Hills is a must if you are in Honolulu. Trust me!

Fantastic Addition to Vegan Food Scene

Everything about this place is high quality. The ambiance, service and food. It is not too formal, more of a high-class cafe, but very nicely done.
The menu is varied and delicious - we especially enjoyed the bowls with grains sand veggies..
The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, accommodating one diner's vegan, oil-free request.
Park in back at muni lot and use back entrance.

Pros: HIgh quality food, Variety and great flavors, Excellent service

Cons: Prices higher end

Good Food, if boring

I got The Good Morning Plate. It was good, but somewhat uninventive. It consisted of house-made tempeh bacon which was very good, as well as some toast, scrambled tofu, and some greens. The scramble was lacking in flavor and the greens were just a pile of dry greens. Still worth going to. My wife really enjoyed her nachos.

Vegan Hills Quickly Rises to the Top of Honolulu Vegan Scene

Honolulu is fortunate to have chef Megumi Odin, who is well-known for producing Peace Cafe, Satori (pop-up), Green Garden and her latest, Vegan Hills. Right at the top of Waialae Ave. across from Bank of Hawaii and next to FHB. Thus came the name, Vegan "Hills"!
With Greens and Vines (Raw Vegan Gourmet) closing its doors the same month as it opened (March 2017), Vegan Hills didn't need much time to rise to the top of the full service vegan restaurants in town.
Given the short time it has been open, Vegan Hills is doing great business which means the food and atmosphere attracts both vegans and non-vegans alike.
I missed Vegan Hill's official grand opening last month, but made it to the new brunch menu's "grand opening" yesterday. Having already eaten breakfast, I picked one of the few savory items on the menu, a Balinese fried rice with tempeh, and was very satisfied. The perfectly cooked long-grain Basmati rice had a delicate balance of Chinese 5-spice (with notable star anise) and a bit of a spicy kick from chili pepper. The rice portion was plentiful, with a bit of tofu scramble on top and a green salad on the plate as well. I added a little shoyu and black pepper as suggested by our server. I propose a little red chili paste on the side would be even better.
My dining partner had an order of fluffy pancakes which he topped with a separate order of strawberries, bananas and whip-cream (non-dairy of course). Everyone around seemed to be enjoying their tasty vegan brunch.
Now, I am looking forward to returning to Vegan Hills on a weekday for many dishes that I've been hankering for, including Coco Cove, a laksa noodle soup, the Satori Bowl, and many others. Once I go, I will add those items to this review.
****
My friend treated me to Vegan Hills for lunch. I ordered the Satori Bowl with Wakame Soup, which was especially tasty. My friend got the chili, which of course, I also tried, and it was quite spicy. The portions were more than adequate. My friend could not finish his chili and I was happy to do so. I was in heaven with this comforting food.
If going by car, you will probably need to use paid parking. There is a municipal lot that is $0.75/half hour. Weekends you may be able to find free parking near the library or along Waialae Ave. toward Kahala.
The only thing about Vegan Hills is that it's a bit pricier than average, but the quality of food and service will make any day a special occasion.

Vegan Hills

Located in Kaimuki, Vegan Hills is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood eatery scene.

Parking: Metered spaces on Waialae Avenue or street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Dining Experience: Once we entered, we were immediately greeted with smiling faces and were told to sit anywhere. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu. The decor is simple, bright and cheerful. The ambiance was relaxing and the music was just right.

Food: Vegan Hills uses organic ingredients whenever possible and all of our meals were plated elegantly. The portions are just enough to fill you, giving you some room for dessert. We had the Why Not Chos ($14.00) and the Avocado Tempeh Melt ($15.00). They have 'onolicious desserts. We tried both of the dessert specials - a slice of lemon poppy seed cake and slice of chocolate pie ($7.00 ea).

I am really excited and thankful for more vegan establishments on O'ahu and am looking forward to visiting again soon!

4/22/17 update: They have a new brunch menu on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Pancakes, Benedict, Granola, Yogurt, Western, Mexican, Japanese , and more!! / They also serve breakfast daily such as the Vegan Hills macrobiotic breakfast - Breakfast is from 8:00 am to 10:30 am.
