Small vegan place off the beaten track - Edit
I had the entire place to myself when I arrived. I had read the bad reviews so was prepared for bad service but the lady seemed fine and more so distracted. I got a bean burger with chips, a beer and a Portuguese tart all for €15 which I thought was very reasonable. Nice that it's all vegan and decent amount of options.

Food poisoning? - Edit
I tried exactly 3 items from the display case. One of them (the seitan croquette) tasted sour and rotten. I felt sick the rest of the night. The nata tart was also not good (no real pastry element, and tasted old/stale). I tried one of the other croquettes and they heated it up for me and it was good, but a 1/3 success rate is a no for me. Do not recommend.

Shockingly rude service. I've never had an experience like this before. I walked in, smiled, said hi quietly, and looked at the baked items. It smelled really nice inside, so I was excited to finally try to Portuguese food. The girl didn't acknowledge me, which is fine, but then I asked if there are tables upstairs and she went off, "you order first. You're supposed to walk in, SAY HELLO, then order, then sit down." I was shocked by her response and just laughed it off. Then I asked if they take cards because I forgot to stop and an ATM. She said they prefer cash, so I just asked if there is an ATM nearby. She angrily gave me directions, which i almost ignored because I was being yelled at and I just wanted to get out. I said okay, thank you, and walked out, she saw that I turned the corner through the window and ran out of the restaurant and yelled "GIRL, NOT THAT WAY!!! THAT WAY" in such a rude way. Another woman on the street scoffed. It was so ridiculous. I turned around and went the way she said, but I fully decided I wasn't coming back after that. I'll take my money to any other restaurant where I'm not abused. This is my 10th country traveling as a vegan and I've never had to leave a restaurant or been yelled at. I'm guessing some reviews here must be from days other staff are working. I've never seen such polarized reviews either.

Food OK, Service As Bad as Other Reviewers Have Mentioned - Edit
Add my voice to the chorus of people here who were highly underwhelmed by the quality of the service. From the moment we walked in, we felt that the server was irritated by our mere existence, and we tried really hard not to be typical entitled tourists: we spoke Portuguese, were pleasant, didn't complain about anything, brushed off her irritated remarks, etc. Another reviewer here thought "How bad could it be?" and then was surprised to find out how bad it could be. We went through the exact same thing: read these reviews, thought "How bad could it be?" then found out how bad it could be. Really, really a shame. This was also my wife's first substantial exposure to a Portuguese local and it took several subsequent reactions with other wonderful locals to wash away the ick.
Read moreThe food was okay but if I had known that the service would be so frosty, I would have taken my business elsewhere.
The kicker was when we took a seat upstairs and saw the vibrantly decorated walls and one of the slogans was "Good Food, Good Mood". Um, #fail.

Rude - Edit
As vegans we are often just happy just to find vegan places to eat. We’ve become accustomed to eat in ‘rustic’ places and below par food. In fact to corroborate this, happy cow doesn’t allow a one star rating for pure vegan places just because by their being they are serving the community.
Read moreSadly vegan box was a disappointment. First impressions was that it was a dive but let’s go in anyway because they are one of the few vegan places in faro and we are grateful to find such a place that is pure vegan. The ‘shop’ was vey small and it didn’t look as if there was anywhere to sit. When we enquired the young lady behind the counter replied ‘upstairs’. Second impression: the counter was full of vegan treats. Plenty of variety. Most of it a shade of brown as it was deep fried. But nonetheless still an opportunity to eat vegan in faro. Third impression: the young lady was beyond rude. One word answers and annoyed by our questions. For example, ‘what’s in the black hole burger?’ Answer ‘beans’. Zero friendliness. She was so inconvenienced by our questions. Not sure if she is the owner or a relative of the owner but quite frankly such a disappointment to have someone so rude in a place that could be full of potential. We made a swift exit and instead had a wonderful, colourful, healthy meal at Vida leve which was a 5 min walk away with warm friendly service.
Pros: Vegan options
Cons: Rude , Not a pleasing place to eat, Mainly fried / junk food

Discovering Faro's pastries - Edit
I went in early and had the place for myself! Took a few photos to share and to show the artsy decos (that I liked most)!
Read moreSince the main course was gonna take a while, I chose to indulge in the savoury pastries instead: jackfruit, 'tunah' (eu gostei muito), 'hot dawg', pesto, 'cream cheeze' and to finish with a sweet cake decorated with strawberries. I also had an apple-carrot freshly prepared juice which went down in one gulp!
The restaurateur-chef was friendly and attentive to my questions. She was direct, strainght-forward and polite. She also was kind to allow a cashless bill settlement.
Nota muito importante: Por favor, bring your cash to settle the bill.
Pros: 1. Powerful art decos, 2. Nice street view, 3. Wide variety of pastries

Worth a visit - Edit
Sweet little place worth a visit. I had the stuffed sweet potato wich tasted homemade and was really nice. My company had a vegan burger wich was kind of the usual meh you get as a choice on non vegan places, but the fries was great!

Let down by the service - Edit
Was expecting rude service due to previous reviews however thought it can’t be that bad… but we were wrong!
Read moreThe woman was rude and dismissive, another annoying thing was that it was cash only, however did not have a 10 euro note for change so we ended up with 10 euros in lots of coins, but she made it seem like it was our fault
It was nice to try a vegan pastel de nata when in Portugal, the filling was nice but the pastry wasn’t which is a let down considering it’s not hard to do good vegan pastry
Would have liked to have tried other things on the menu but wouldn’t bother due to the poor service

Delicious - Edit
The staff was very friendly, and the cakes (Oreo & Cookie) as well as the Pastel de Nata were also great. There’s also a seating area upstairs. A nice, small, fully vegan café.

Nice to have a fully vegan restaurant option. Staff were really friendly. Had the 'Black Hole' black bean burger and pastel de nata.
Read moreThe burger was OK but nothing special. Dry bun and lacking sauce, I've had way better burgers, but the chips were freshly handmade and really good.
Pastel de nata were neither good nor authentic. I had way better in Lisbon. These were underfiled and rubbery.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so unwelcome in a restaurant.... The waitress was maybe in a bad mood that day but there is no reason to behave like that with customers! The dishes are very simple (I do the same thing but better at home: burger). It seemed to have some "traditional" dishes but I didn't want to ask for any information since the waitress was unpleasant...

Nice pastel de Nata - Edit
I was excited to try this traditional Portuguese tart:)
Read moreI also tried soy chilli with rice, both tasted ok but I think the place wasn't the cleanest during my visit which slightly ruined my experience.
I was sitting upstairs, a massive cockroach on the wall was making me company while my food was getting ready.

Don’t Be Put Off By Mixed Reviews! - Edit
We almost didn’t visit here due to previous reviews but I’m so glad we did!
Read moreThe gentleman serving us was so friendly and kind.
They had a lovely selection of different sweet and savoury bites at the counter, and there was a sign detailing food they make up for you also. We chose some of the small bites from the counter, including of course the Portuguese pastel de nata! My first experience of pastel de nata was delicious 😋
The food was all tasty and reasonably priced.
The decor is great! Colourful and pro-vegan. Feels like a lovely, happy space to grab lunch. There is also a cute chalkboard in the toilet for people to write messages on which is fun!
Note: be careful you don’t miss it as the sign is quite small outside if you approach on the same street. We nearly walked past!
Highly recommend stopping here when in Faro!
Pros: Kind staff, Tasty food, Pastel de nata!

Nice food, not a warm welcome - Edit
We hunted this little cafe out, despite mixed reviews.
Read moreI had a chicken free butter which was great.
Sadly the lady serving was hostile from the point we went in. The prices for pastry’s weren’t labelled so I asked how much they were as they prefer cash payments. I wanted to check I’d got enough to take some home too. She was outright rude, told me her English wasn’t good and to help her out! Maybe add the prices so you don’t need to asked!!!
She then told me to wait upstairs for my food, I felt like a child being told off!
I wanted to eat here to support a vegan independent business but unfortunately the lady was so rude I wouldn’t go back again!!
Pros: Solely vegan , Good options, Nice burger
Cons: Rudeness of lady serving!

Nowhere special - Edit
Popped in here for a quick drink & snack before heading to the airport for our flight home. There's a reasonable choice of sweet & savoury snacks. I tried their pastel de nata, but it wasn't the best I've tasted. I'd hoped for an iced coffee but they had no ice! To top things off, the girl behind the counter was very unfriendly! All in all, a bit disappointing.

Average and Overpriced - Edit
It was ok, we had the Vegalhau. It was filling and tasted ok but could if done with some more flavour (reminded me of English bubble and squeak just not fried). Both my children had side of chips but they came with lots of paprika on them so one child wasn’t best pleased. Also for the2 meals, plus 2 side chips, 4 sodas and 4 small chocolates it was €48 which we though was a lot of money for what it was.
Read morePros: Gluten Free options, Dog Friendly inside, Large main portions
Cons: Needs more flavour, Overpriced, Place is abit run down
