Favourite weekend breakfast place

Jumeirah Road does not have much vegetarian Indian food, which tends to be at its best in slightly more downmarket neighbourhoods. Vega by Puranmal is the signature branch of a high-quality chain of restaurants and lies just a stone's throw from the Jumeirah Mosque, the public beach, La Mer and its eateries. Its swish decor and deep armchairs make for a cool, relaxing break from the heat. During the temperate months, there is also a secluded patio at the back, which seems a little underused, given its premium location.

Everything on the menu is at least good, with some of it approaching exceptional. This place is known for its sweets, though just a few of these are vegan.

(The business is also famous for catering for outside events and I have seen at least one ex-president from the subcontinent, plus their entourage, joyfully eating food from here.)

Pros: Location, decor, ambiance, patio, Dosa, Fig, date and nut balls

Cons: Coffee (Dubai is a city of caffeine heads!)
