I was so lucky they were out of burgers by the time I reached Veg Machine on Monday evening. I got the „Nagu Banh Mi võileib“ (“Like Banh Mi sandwich“) with extra cilantro and it was sooo good! My friend got the Beyond Smash burger which was good, but nothing special. I really recommend Veg Machine, especially the one in Tartu — there’s one at Balti Jaam in Tallinn, but that one doesn’t have nearly as many and as exciting dishes.

It's great that there's a vegan restaurant in Tartu but I'm just not the biggest fan of fast food... which is why I got the cesar salad but I guess it wasn't that healthy after all bc of the salad sauce and the sauce they used for the tofu.

A great all vegan cafe about 15 mins from the centre. As well as burgers etc there was a caesar salad which you could add ‘like chicken’ or smoked tofu to. In a lovely artisan complex.

We ordered the Wannabe Caesar salad, cheese fries and blueberry milkshakes for a lunch. I was satisfied with everything, especially with the salad and milkshake, because we don’t have them in Tallinn’s Veg Machine. We all loved the food and will definitely come back when we happen to visit Tartu again.

I am not a big fan of the menu (too processed) as I do not eat mock meat neither do I care for burgers etc in general. It would be great if they would have a nice veggie burrito or something similar in the menu instead of the very many burgers.
Read moreThe vegan Caesar salad is ok though and the most healthy choice. It comes with smoked tofu, baked Brussels sprouts and different fresh ingredients & toppings.
They also used to sell vegan “tofish” and chips with coleslaw which was not too bad but this seems to be off the menu.

I ordered the tenders and the loaded fries. The tenders are awesome, you have to try. The loaded fries were also very good. The prices are not too high.

Clean vegan machine of a joint in a cool cultural start up community - Edit
Walking into this courtyard is impressive and one can feel the energy of the young creative company vibe.

The room inside is open and super clean with the walls adorned in really good painterly artwork.
One orders at the counter and I had the tofu salad and the Veg machine burger using beyond meat patties. It was the best I’d ever had.
Some of the staff had been there last year and it was great to see such consistency in the plant 🌱 based community staff wise.

I lived in Tartu from 2016-2018 and nothing like this existed at that time, especially not in any of the malls (although you could find great vegan/vegetarian/GF items in all of the malls' grocery stores). So I was excited to try this when we came back for a visit. The prices in Tartu have definitely increased in the last 3 years, but I think that the prices Veg Machine are still pretty reasonable, especially for a fully vegan restaurant.
Read moreI got the caesar salad and not only was it delicious, but it was also heartier than I had expected it to be. My husband has to eat gluten-free and the person working there said it would be hard for him to eat anything other than the french fries without sauce. At first it seemed like it would be left at that, but she went the extra mile to put something together for him with all GF ingredients (the Beyond burger patty, vegan cheese, lettuce/veggies and french fries). She also said that they are working on getting GF bread and making more ingredients GF, so maybe next time we visit, it will be easier for him.
