Mission is great but food is ok - Edit
Vegan cafe near the Telus convention centre and is ok for a quick bite. This is an Indian restaurant so the food is very heavily Indian flavoured. My colleague (who is Indian) didn’t like the samosa- claiming it was very bland. The kimchi curry was as cold as ice cream and not good. The main course was ok. They have lots of great vegan desserts though!
Read moreOne last thing- the serve the food in a basket lined with a waxy-coated paper. I didn’t confirm with them but this could be perfluorinated paper (PFAS) which is used commonly in microwave popcorn and fast food wrappers. PFAS is a chemical of emerging concern and bioaccumulates in our body and has been associated with cancers and other diseases. These are also ‘forever chemicals’ since they don’t break down in garbage disposal and eventually leaches into water or through animals. They are persistent and should be avoided at all costs

Great food. - Edit
Very large portions for the price. Samosas tasted great with lots of filling. The jack fruit sandwich was huge! It tasted great as well. Service was friendly and quick. Will definitely go again. Recommended.

Outstanding - Edit
Robust flavour, unique food items, cheap and insanely kind owner. I felt like I was in a New York eatery. The Heaven on Earth samosa bowl was amaze balls, garlic naan and the Veg-In small wrap which was honestly not small at all. Haha. So tasty. All of it.

Excellent burgers, samosa bowls! - Edit
We love the local, home made food. Excellent flavours! And they’re ethical too giving leftovers to ‘Leftovers’ and sending food to hospital workers. This is to become a regular eating place for me. BTW. I’m WFPB-vegan- no SOS. No oil or sugar can be requested.

Very Nice Staff - Edit
Good food, very different than any vegan place I have gone to thus far (in a good way). Everyone there was very friendly.

Huge burger portions - Edit
Had burgers from here that were delicious. Maybe too many ingredients on it because it did kinda fall apart. I like a set menu but everything had an option, too many choices for me. They Indian food is wicked. Store front is so offensively green, it’s hard to read the menu lol - just signs and things hanging everywhere!!

It feels like home. - Edit
I have been going to Veg-In for my vegetarian dishes for nearly 4 years. Manish, the entire family that runs it, and their staff always remember my name and are incredibly passionate about their restaurant.
Read moreTheir joy of working with food, their connection to the downtown community, and an incredible spirit for being there for starving downtown workers and the students at Bow Valley... it shows and it makes someone feel welcomed. It feels like being invited into someone's home. It's a good feeling.
The food is great too. My current favourite is the Burgeritto, which is my go to while going between errands and meetings.
For a city that sometimes struggles with vegetarian options - and good fare at a great price - Veg-In is a place that can't be beat! Solid 5/5, will keep on eating here for another four years!
Pros: Great pricing, Good vegetarian dishes, Great staff

Deserves 6 Stars!! - Edit
The only problem with this place is that it is not in my town! As someone who strives to eat a WFPBD with no added oil, Veg-In YYC is Restaurant Heaven. This is small, lunch-counter & takeaway establishment with some of the best, most creative vegetarian/vegan food I have found anywhere in the world. It is run by the chef and her husband, who are both friendly and knowledgeable. This spot is a MUST for anyone living in, or visiting Calgary.

Nice, friendly and mainly vegan! - Edit
I’m glad we stumbled across this place whilst wondering around Calgary! The menu was really extensive, focusing on plant based foods with an Indian twist. I had the frank flatbread with beyond meat sausage and veg with a spicy sauce (although there was so many sauce options I just went with what the friendly server recommended)! Really yum, and the staff were lovely!

Awesome Place - Edit
Great little restaurant in Calgary. It’s more vegan then vegetarian, as there are only two dishes with dairy cheese. Everyone loved their food and the owner was actually making our meal. She was great and made sure we enjoyed everything!

As good as your last order? - Edit
A gentle reminder that in this fickle world, one is often only as good as the latest order served. I love this place and support the mission to bring tasty vegan food to a population still blithely putting ‘cow on the kaiser’...So all the more reason to make sure that food quality is great, prices are reasonable and portions are decent. My yam fries should not number little more than a measly dozen or surrender their firmness mere minutes later. The New York burger was interesting, firm bite (maybe too firm) but a little dry and without much spice. Overall, very indifferent food - and on that basis how on earth am I supposed to rave to potential converts. So come on Veg-In, please don’t rest on your laurels - quality check, portions, prices and keep people coming back before they find a new go-to for great vegan chow...
Read moreNote: I must have inadvertently deleted my initial review (Happy Cow nube) which was very complimentary (5 star) and described the range of innovative Indian fusion food on the menu. I would definitely recommend a visit to taste for yourself. I will be back for sure, but my last comment stands - just because it’s a great menu doesn’t always mean that you’ll get a great meal...
Pros: All vegan options, Creative Indian fusion
Cons: Quality needs to be consistently high, Portions! - I’m vegan not a stick-insect.., Price - remember who your competition is..

Good food - Edit
Good, homemade food. Menu of Indian-themed meals, wraps, flatbreads, burgers, samosas and more. On my first visit I had the delicious Rise and Shine breakfast wrap, with scrambled tofu, red pepper, mushrooms and eggplant, $9.50. You’ll need a napkin, but this is really good! The wrap is browned, so it’s nicer than the commonly found burrito wrap. Next visit I ordered The Jack burger - it’s a house-made patty made from BBQ jackfruit, oats, rice, etc.). Most of the menu is all vegan now; they currently offer only two vegetarian items (with paneer cheese). There’s a variety of flavours of milkshakes made with almond milk. I noticed raw cheezcakes in the chiller. You can eat in (counters and stools) or take away. Closed Sunday-Monday. If I lived in Calgary, I would be eating here often.

Took a chance with this unusual option and very glad we did! The gluten free samosa was the best gluten free anything I have ever had! The Manhattan burger was insanely good. The drooling hippie was good and the mistaken identity wrap was a notable mention as well. Next time I am in Calagary I will be back.

Imaginative fusion - Edit
Seems more geared towards take out that dine in but the food is fantastic! I love Indian food and this retained the flavours but gave more traditional dishes a modern twist. The staff/owners were very welcoming and friendly and it was a delight to get vegan nan bread (it usually has some kind of dairy in it) The only non-vegan items on the menu were the couple of dishes that contained paneer (Indian cheese). We tried the East Meets West which contained smashed samosas and soup with a "Mango Jane" (which was like a mango chutney naan bread sandwich that we dipped into the soup and worked surprisingly well as a combination of flavours
