Located in Alington House on North Bailey in a prominent part of Durham on the way up to the Cathedral from Saddler Street. Facilities are shared with other organisations but Veg Den has use of them Sat to Wed 12-3 and 6-9 as well as Friday evenings by arrangement. Very cosy inside with seating for a very comfortable 15 or so. Good choice on the menu: e.g. thai spring rolls and tofu with dips as starters, tofu burger, indian veg rice, vegetarian spag bol and a selection of freshly made pies as main courses, salads, breads, hot and cold drinks and desserts e.g. fresh fruit platter and strawberry cheese cake. Great value, friendly service, knowledgeable staff and a relaxed atmosphere. This place deserves to succeed, and once the students return to the city during term time this will be an excellent addition to the alternatives. Their motto is "simple, humble & cooked in consciousness". We will be back
This is a great little restaurant. It's cosy, friendly and the food is fantastic value (£4.00- £4.50 for main dishes). The vegan choice is brilliant, I was informed that every meal on the menu could be made vegan. I opted for the tofu burger which was delicious, it consisted of 3 types of tofu with salad and a tangy tomato topping. I am very pleased that this wonderful restaurant has opened and plan to make the most of it by visiting regularly.
