Firstly, the food was lovely, very tasty. The Mexican Street Corn and Coriander Fritters ($22) were marked as a vegan item on the menu, they were full of flavour and cooked well without the grease that can sometimes ooze out of fritters, these were really good. The Singapore Style Mee Goreng with Tofu ($32) was also very nice, it was listed as a vegan option on the menu so they just removed the fried egg, it would have be been good to have had some more tofu, as far as we know there was no vegan replacement for the egg.
Read moreThere's no denying this place is cool, vibrant and obviously a hit with the locals, and the food is good. Taking that into consideration we still thought the prices were a bit steep.
Service was good, they were busy and there's quite a few tables which were all full so we had to wait a bit for our food which in turn ended up being a bit of a rush to eat it as most of the parking nearby is limited to 1 hour and we didn't want to get a parking fine.
Would I go back? Probably not, we weren't wowed by the vegan options on the menu so there isn't anything else we feel we need to try. However, it is a great venue to meet up with friends with seating inside and outside to choose from that has a neighbourhood feel to it. I'm sure the rent on this Cottesloe venue isn't cheap either and that's probably reflected in the prices but we left feeling that it wasn't quite worth it.

Great vegan options - Edit
Lots of vegan options marked on menu and staff very aware of vegan requirements. They actually reduce the price for some items that are made vegan and also don't just take meat and dairy away but add on items, e.g. to the fry up they add spinach and avocado. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. If you're having dinner there ask for the vegan menu.

Delicious Burger - Edit
I was really surprised by their vegan burger! Great burger patty (some type of corn fritter I think) and the chips came with vegan aioli (which tasted good, but I found it to sit a bit weird in my stomach). No vegan menu though, just a couple vegan options.

Vans has a full vegan/vego menu that changes seasonally. Quite pricey but delicious, fresh food. Would definitely recommend!

Delicious food, choice and great service - Edit
We chose to visit Vans for dinner after walking past it a few times and noticing the healthy specials and menu items on offer as well as it being super busy, no matter what time of day.
Read moreVans has a dedicated vegetarian/vegan menu which provides a great deal of choice no matter your diet, including gluten free. In addition to the food the restaurant offers a significant selection of juices, smoothies, teas and alcohol. The staff are very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful despite being very busy (we were lucky to get a reservation).
My friend and I ordered pumpkin gnocchi with asparagus and endgame which also happened to be gluten free. The portion was generous and absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the salt and pepper tofu, rice noodle salad which was tasty and spicy for those who like chilli.
I am not a dessert person but noticed that Vans offered a vegan chocolate cake with avocado chocolate mousse, chocolate ice cream and macerated cherries. OMG, it was amazing.
If you are looking for excellent food and service I would recommend Vans.
Pros: Choice of vegan options, Excellent food, Friendly and excellent service.
