Serves meat, vegan options available. Brew pub. Menu has vegetarian choices including a seitan Philly cheese, black bean burger, meatless loaf sandwich, mushroom pasta, stuffed shells, veggie gyro. Reported using a segregated vegetarian fryer to prevent contamination. Vegans could get the portobello mushroom pizza or seitan tenderloin (bun has milk in it, so ask for multigrain ciabatta bun), coconut tofu or southwest tofu salad, spicy tofu tacos, portobello sandwich, vegetarian chili. Specify vegan to be sure. Open Mon-Sun 11:30am-8:00pm.

Clearly labeled vegan options, cool patio, would go again - Edit
We got seitan tenderloin and seitan hot chicken sandwhich. Both use the same seitan patty, so it's really just a difference in how they dress it up. The hot chicken sandwhich has a spicy sauce, while the tenderloin had some veggies. Both were good, and I'd eat there again and be happy. They had some other vegan options as well including tacos with impossible crumbles. The veggie burger IS NOT vegan, as it contains egg and I believe the server said milk as well. However, they do have buns clearly labeled as vegan (+$2.50), which is nice as I'm always somewhat skeptical that they are buttered or something and the server or kitchen staff overlooks that detail. So I appreciated that. And the buns were quite good.
Read moreOverall, great place for students who have family coming in to visit as they have something for everyone, a nice chill atmosphere, and patio tables outside for nice days. Great place to catch a game too as they have plenty of TVs but it's not as raucous as Nick's or The Upstairs.

Pros: Clearly labeled vegan options, House-made seitan patties, Good beer and a chill atmosphere
Cons: Doesn't feel like the MOST thoughtful vegan menu, Would like to see the veggie burger be vegan

Many vegan options, relaxed atmosphere - Edit
There are several vegan sandwiches (seitan), burgers (impossible), tacos (impossible), and salads on the menu. Can sub seitan patty or impossible burger for many non-vegan menu items. Add tofu to salads. Great to come with a group or entire family with kids.

Meh - Edit
My spouse and I had high hopes given the reviews, but were pretty disappointed with the reduced vegan options on the menu. We got the Nashville Hot and “Tenderloin,” which we discovered used the same seitan patty. Neither were super flavorful, not the worst seitan we’ve had, but pretty boring. The sandwiches also didn’t have the same fixins as the non vegan version - wish they would veganize the toppings the original sandwiches had to make the vegan versions better.

Only 2 vegan options - Edit
There used to be 4 vegan meal options, but 2 recently switched to vegetarian on the menu. The salad wonton topping is not vegan.
Read moreThe impossible tacos are good, and the seitan sandwich is okay. Plenty of outdoor seating, but staff refused our request to sit in a less populated section of the patio.
Pros: Lots of seating
Cons: Few vegan options left

Used to be great for vegans - not so much with menu change - Edit
They used to have multiple explicitly labeled vegan options. There were three different sandwiches, tacos, and a salad.
Read moreNow with a recent menu to overhaul, they only have one vegan seitan sandwich (they didn't even keep the best one, in my opinion!) and the Thai Tofu salad is no longer vegan. It is labeled as vegetarian so I'm sure with the sacrifice of one or two ingredients it would be available vegan.
For years this restaurant was my go to because of the great tasting food and vast options. It really felt like they cared about creating delicious vegan food. With their new menu change, it feels like the only reason they have vegan options at all anymore is out of obligation to have just one or two items. Very disappointed with this change, and with menu prices increasing it is just not worth it anymore given the limited options.
Super bummed I lost my favorite place!
Pros: Great tasting food, Good beer selection , Generally knowledge staff
Cons: Expensive , Much more limited vegan options

Awesome vibe! - Edit
We came here while visiting the area over Memorial Day weekend. There are enough vegan options to chose from. A large indoor area for eating and a large dog friendly outdoor patio as well. A very cool inclusive vibe to the place. I would definitely go here again if I were in the area. Food was tasty as well.

Best fries in Bloomington - Edit
They have added a lot more vegan options since they first opened, which I really appreciate. The beer battered fries are perfect! Vegan Thai salad is awesome, and so is the vegan Seitan sandwich. Would be 5 stars if they offered vegan condiments, but have faith that will be available with time.

Never disappoints - Edit
Have always loved Upland. Normally just get a salad here because if not I’ll end up leaving uncomfortably full due to all the great food. It’s definitely easier to eat vegetarian here than vegan but not at all impossible. Fun to come here with friends and family. The outside lights always are beautiful enough to make me choose outside seating versus air conditioning in the summer nights

Great clearly explained vegan options - Edit
If you tell your server you are vegan, s/he will give you a special menu with Vegan options (and Gluten free options on the reverse side). It lists items that are vegan already, as well as the substitutions/omissions they will make if you order something vegan.
Read moreOne criticism, is that the "tofu" in the tofu tacos was more like seitan (but not quite). If you like a tasty marinaded, crispy on the outside, warm and soft in the inside tofu--don't get the tofu tacos. If you're up for something different, go for it. The flavors are good, but it just wasn't what I was expecting.
Pros: printed menu of vegan items (just ask!)
Cons: weird tofu on tacos

Vegan options vastly improved - Edit
There were several items on the menu that were vegan, or could easily be made vegan. I had the spicy tofu tacos, and just substituted guacamole instead of the chipotle cream. My mom had the seitan sandwich, and the server upon hearing we were vegan, knew enough to tell us she would switch to vegan bread. Other options were sriracha hummus, and I saw a wrap that would be vegan without the feta. There was a black bean burger, but I didn't ask if it contained egg.

Not vegan friendly - Edit
Upland Brewery might be vegetarian-friendly but it's definitely not vegan-friendly. Tofu and seitan are breaded with egg and I think none of the courses on the menu are vegan. They did make me a vegan dish when I asked, but the tofu tasted weird. Good beer though!
