Special experience! - Edit
We cooked tofu in a pot at our own table with the recommendation in what way to eat the different tofu (silken tofu on the sides, more chewy tofu in the middle). The sushi we had was super fish-like in texture according to my carnivore husband, and was really delicious. The dessert was very good and served in a cute hedgehog dish. Especially the matcha Sakura creme brulee was very good. The owner even shared some of his personal sake with us. Very nice experience!

THANK YOU YUKIKO! - Edit
If you eat at one place in Japan, eat at this one. Hands down the best food experience I have EVER had. I stumbled upon this gem by accident while in Kyoto, and made a special trip back from Osaka just to come back a second time before I leave Japan! It is such a joy to be able to experience Japanese food made with such thought, joy, love and care. I had the opportunity to meet Yukiko herself who is an absolute sweetheart and genuinely cares about breaking down the barriers to experiencing amazing food without stress or worry. THANK YOU YUKIKO!

Great place - Edit
We ordered a place the night before, and waited anxiously the whole day. A very pleasant traditional (like) place: one enters without shoes, low tables and cushions to sit on. The service is very efficient and the food is excellent.

Good dining out experiece - Edit
I believe this is the prettiest restaurant I’ve visited so far in japan, it feels like fine dining. Shoes off, can sit on the floor or tables
Read moreStaff was attentive, our server spoke English really well so communication was easy.
The food was generally really good. The only thing i wasn’t convinced by was the salmon sushi roll, as the “salmon” had a weird texture, a bit mushy. Overall very nice.

Very nice Ramen - Edit

Good vegan food for tourists - Edit
Vegan food is pretty rare in Japan.
Read moreThis is a restaurant geared for tourists, and is a good spot for vegan food for tourists.
If this is your first time in Japan, and you don't speak any Japanese at all, then Uno is a great place to go. The servers speak English, and the food is pretty good. You will have a great time, and can rely on ordering vegan food (although they do serve fish, so do ask!). It can be very difficult to order food in Japan on your first visit, even more so for vegan food, so please enjoy Uno.
If you have some experience with Japan, then this place won't live up to your expectations.
It is mainly for tourists new to Japan, and it's way too expensive, and not really worth it.

Traditional Experience, Great Food! - Edit
This place is open later which is a plus when traveling. It was nice to have a more traditional Japanese dinner experience on our trip. We took our shoes off at the door, sat on a pillow, and had our meal. The food was all exceptional. The dumplings, ramen, sake, and dessert were all delicious. If you’re in Kyoto, Gion District, I would recommend this place.

We got the curry, dumplings and hot ramen. They were all great. Another table got the cutlets which looked amazing (wish we got them too).

Disappointing - Edit
We took the simple ramen, curry and boiled gyoza. They were just OK, the ramen was definitely pretty and yet tasted bland - nothing more. At the bottom of our vegan ramen list. After we’ve read the reviews here we expected something way better, especially for such a steep price.

Everything was Amazing! - Edit
We had an amazing lunch here - the food was so amazing and flavorful, the setting we very pretty and there were nice little touches everywhere. Of course the service was excellent in typical Japanese fashion. A must visit if you are in Kyoto and veg / gluten free - I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Great Ramen - Edit
This was a really nice place to eat. Ordering was via QR code which took you to a menu. We had a selection of hot ramen, cold ramen and fried dumplings. The cold ramen came with avocado and pineapple which I quite liked. This one comes with ice cubes in the ramen.

A Creamy Vegan Ramen Like No Other — Powered by Soy Milk - Edit
Among the growing number of vegan ramen spots in Japan, Uno Ramen Sanjo stands out for its distinctively rich and creamy broth made with soy milk. The soup delivers deep, savory flavor without the heaviness often associated with traditional ramen, making it surprisingly light and easy to enjoy.
Read moreEven for Japanese locals, the taste offers a fresh and novel experience, while international visitors will likely find it an impressive example of how satisfying plant-based ramen can be. Whether you’re vegan or not, this is the kind of bowl that keeps you coming back—an addictive, one-of-a-kind ramen that bridges cultures and palates.

Special but a little bit pricy - Edit
The ambiance is very beautiful, and if you sit at the bar, you can watch how everything is prepared and see the amount of work that goes into it. Each piece of sushi is artfully assembled, sometimes decorated with flowers or similar touches, which helps explain and justify the price
Read moreWe were very hungry and curious, so we ended up ordering almost every sushi on the menu, and we actually liked all of them. Especially the one with fried eggplant, vegan cheese, and fish substitute stood out. But overall, everything was good and definitely recommendable.

Positive Surprise ♥️ - Edit
Finished everything with a good feeling in the stomach! Very light ramen but very flavourful - perfect balance.
Read moreThe self-rolled “tuna” sushi was amazing too!
I agree with the other reviews that the sushi is overpriced. I was happy to find something vegan 😊
I ordered the 3 pickled vegetables on the side, which I wouldn’t order again. Nothing special.

Good - Edit
But pricey! The ramen isn't so special but we had too few options late in the night. The creme brulé, the croquettes and the Sakura cocktail were wonderful! At the entrance of the place there is a vendor machine selling whole vegan cakes and pies!

Traditional style dining - Edit
We had the ramen, shumei & gyozas. The traditional style dining was lovely with a beautiful garden view. There were some seats at the bar for those who wouldn’t be comfortable on the floor. We loved the dumplings but found the prices to be a bit higher than elsewhere.

Seating is on the floor. Or some bar seats available.
Big recommendation for the plum rose and daura beer.
Food could have been warmer.
