Fun spot for mixed diets - Edit
I visited Union Rec for the first time last night with some omnivore friends and my vegetarian partner. We were looking for a place to grab dinner and drinks after work, and decided to check out Union Rec. One big selling point for me is this restaurant is not properly downtown Ann Arbor - although it is on Main street, it has its own parking lot for customers, and ample parking at that!
Read moreWe were greeted warmly, seated in a very cute booth, and treated to great service by our waitress. One thing to note is this place is loud, there is a lot of background noise from the other patrons as well as overhead music. It's just that kind of place.
They had a lengthy beverage menu featuring canned and bottled beer, cider, and wine, as well as a long draft beer list and a variety of unique cocktails. The food menu is also fairly extensive, and even though the food is geared toward omnivores, there are some good vegetarian and vegan friendly options available.
Notable vegan options include three appetizers, the pea guacamole, cowboy caviar, and BBQ cauliflower. There is a Main/bowl item called the Bandeja Bowl that can be ordered vegan, and BBQ cauliflower can be added for an up-charge. There are several side dishes that are vegan as well, the fries, cilantro rice, borracho beans, and Peruvian slaw.
I enjoyed a cocktail called the Counselor's Cabin and ordered the vegan Bandeja Bowl as well as the BBQ Cauliflower appetizer (to share with my partner, who ordered the vegetarian mac and cheese). I enjoyed every bit of it. Of course I would like more options available to me but the options available were satisfying.
This is a bit of a pricey restaurant experience but it was worth it, and I would visit again.
Pros: Tasty vegan options, Free parking lot, Good adult beverage selection
Cons: Expensive, to be expected for the area but still, Limited number of vegan options, Loud atmosphere

Really neat place! - Edit
Delicious pea guacamole and bbq cauliflower bites! Really cool place with parking provided on premise. Also has an outdoor spot in the parking lot called the shed that looks neat. Fried mango handpies were amazing!
