‘Ono

Serving up organic, locally sourced 'Aina foods. Cinnamon buns, kalo- tofu scramble, Aina Stew kalo curry, kalo casserole, kalo musubi, kalo poke, kalo-collard wraps, tacos, nachos, stroganoff, sandwiches, salads, and so much more.

Hours: 8:00 am -2:30 pm / Monday-Friday

Parking: Located across the street from ‘Umeke Market at Ali'i Place - 1099 Alakea Street. 75 cents per 30 minutes (up to 2 hours) - Cash only parking garage.

Restroom: There are no restrooms available onsite. I was told the nearest restrooms are located across the street at Walmart. The Walmart restrooms are up the escalators, right and then left.

Dining Experience: The staff was very kind and eager to review the menu and food entrees with us. I love that they make it their mission to source & serve up delectable local (when possible) organic ingredients & featuring many Hawaiian staple foods. The establishment was clean and inviting. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

Food: Our lunch entrees (comes with rice or pasta and 1 side) were packed with flavor and the portions were just right. 1 Entree ($9.25), 2 Entrees ($11.25), 3 Entrees ($13.25), add a side ($2.00). We returned the following day for breakfast and everything was as we had hoped it would be. The Tofu Burrito ($10.00), Kalo Tofu scramble w/side ($5.00), Roasted Potatoes ($2.00 side), Chiabatta ($7.00), Kalo Musubi ($5.00), and the Kalo Cinnabuns ($6.50) were so 'ono!

Make sure to sign up for rewards and emails on daily specials with discount codes.

We are looking forward to returning and trying their smoothies.

Pros: Excellent Food, Great Value, Friendly Staff

Cons: No restrooms

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!

This restaurant has to be the best restaurant we went to during my trip to honolulu, it was very clean, the staff was very polite. The breakfast burrito!!! OMG!!! I had a lot of vegan burritos in my life but this one has to the best!!! And their cacao coffee smoothie was the greatest coffee drink I ever had in my life!! 10/10!!! Would highly recommend the only downside it's a little bit hard to find because of the location it's in but it's all good everything else makes up for it!!

Pros: EVERYTHING IS VEGAN, Very clean, Polite and friendly staff

Cons: Difficult to find if it's your first time

Nice place in downtown, but basic choices and plastic cups

My salad with walnut meat was way too spicy.
Smoothies are served in plastic cups. They say it is a compostible plastic, but everything is compostible, even plutonium, in several thousand years, so I didn't risk. And after this plastic is composted, what happens to the particles of plastic in it? They break down and enter our air, ocean, food chain.
Nice place in downtown. But only one salad base, and generally, comparing to some another small buffet style vegan places, choices not so much enticing.
They sell plastic water bottles.

Pros: downtown, nice conditioned place.

Cons: very basic choices , no options for plastic-free drinking cups

A must for any Honolulu vacation!

If you are looking to find authentic vegan Hawaiian food, this is the place. I got the lunch plate and choose the kalo stew for one of my entrees, and it was so good. They also have other types of foods as well. If you come between 10:45 am and 11:45 am, you get a small discount, so I got my bowl of salad, rice, and two entrees for less than $10 with tax. You really can't beat that in Honolulu.

Pros: All vegan, delicious, authentic Hawaiian, affordable

Cons: None

Great little place, Awesome food

Just visiting from out of town. I tried the Gyro with mock chicken and a side of pasta salad... all excellent! Everything on the extensive menu is vegan. A great variety of Indian and Mexican-inspired dishes and traditional fare. The staff were super nice. Glad I stopped!

Awesome and lovingly prepared

I enjoyed a Vegetarian Society of Hawaii gathering here with kind friends and fantastic flavors! I can still remember the dessert made with macadamias and mango. A heavenly sweet for sure!!

Pros: Compassionate preparation

Great Spot!

You'd be hard pressed to find a restaurant that puts more aloha into their food. Fresh, local, made with care.
As the reviewer below noted, it's not on Bishop Street but on Hotel between Bishop and Alakea. Clean, modern, reasonably priced. (Several of Honolulu's best vegetarian options are located within a few blocks of each other in the downtown - not Waikiki - area.) Note that they don't stay open late - try to get there before 2 PM.

Now, All Vegan!!!

So pleased to see that Umeke Market is now all vegan! And, so delicious! I had brown rice, kalo curry, Korean “chikken”, and collard greens. So Ono! Earlier in the day, we got a cinnamon roll to share - yum!

Pros: All-vegan menu!

Delicious - with a Hawaiian accent

Generous portions, very low fat lunches with some local flavor. Kalo (taro) curry, black bean enchiladas, 'pono' chili (a bit on the sweet side), pasta with a full bodied 'meat'sauce, and some really tasty deserts. The plate lunch includes two scoops of brown rice and two entrees for $10, one entree for 8.50. Very cheerful and helpful service.

Although the street address is 1001 Bishop Street, you'll find it on Hotel Street, between Alakea and Bishop Street.

Pros: large variety, generous portions, mostly fat free

Good Food - Good Service

If you work downtown, the location is good too. They are on the Hotel St side of Bishop Square/Tamarind Park. Supposedly they are known for their Pono Chili. But I really love their Crispy Burrito!! The people there are really friendly and helpful, especially when I first went there and had all kinds of questions about their menu and their "punchcard" reward program. They recently added a kalo burger, waiting to see if they will offer a CHILI BURGER option. Now dat sounds ONO!! :)

Pros: Good Food, Good Service, Reward Program

Cons: Always the same-Maybe add one "SPECIAL of the day"

Boiled food? Good dessert.

Stopped here while in Honolulu because of reviews. Was not very impressed. Though my lunch items were healthy, they were boiled to the point they were kind of gross and without flavor. Collard greens were good. The redeeming feature was some of the best vegan cinnamon rolls I have ever had!

Highlight of my trip to Honolulu

I spent a week in Hawaii and tried to get down as much vegan food as possible, and was pleasantly surprised by the food scene in the state as a whole. One thing that would have been under my radar was Mama T's, when a friend had taken me there I didn't know what to expect.

Chalkboard menu, family owned place, everything was fresh made daily and when they were out they were out.

Kept balance by having raw tacos that I was a bit skeptical of at first, moving from Austin Texas I have high standards of tacos and wasn't sure about raw... one bite later I was sold.

Also had a veggie burrito that was delicious, and this is coming from a guy living in a 90% Latino neighborhood in South Central Texas.

Mama T and her crew were working and super kind, her daughter was a very upbeat child who was having fun with us with her video making app.

I'm very excited to move back to Honolulu and eat her food again... like 3 days a week for the next decade.

You will not be disappointed with this decision. Mama T is very sweet, her daughter is adorable and Alex is extremely kind. I will be back again and again.
