Serves meat, vegan options available. Roadside vendor offering local fried snacks. Vegan choices include dal wade, ulundu wade, and parippu wade. Open Mon-Sun 8:00am-8:00pm.
An innocent question posed to my tour guide about local fried delicacies landed me at this altogether unassuming, yet entirely charming roadside destination.
Despite protestations to the contrary, the driver was absolutely insistent that they take the necessary detour to this particular vendor as they were unequivocal about this being the place to acquire wade. Obviously, in no position to do anything else, I acquiesced.
Options, as you might imagine, were limited. There were of course the fabled ulundu wade to be had as well as some dal wade - so this is what I dutifully ordered. Expecting magic, what I actually experienced was a heightened degree of indifference. Yes, they were good, but not transcendently so as I had been led to believe they would be. Having sampled numerous vada (particularly the same dish), I found these to be a good, slightly spicier variant, but nothing too extraordinary.
Of course, the main boon for these specific offerings was the price - cheaper than you would ever even deem reasonable. With this in mind, it’s fair to say that if I was passing by again then I would probably stop to avail myself of a significant handful, though I can’t say that I would make a dedicated pilgrimage to seek them out.
