Friendly vibe, good value, good food

I am a vegan and I have eaten lunch the cafe twice. Painted on the outside of the store is a big sign which says the place is vegan friendly, but it would be nice if they would place a V and a VO for vegan and vegan options for the food.

When I was there I ate their veggie burger and the portobello mushroom burger. Typically the portobello mushroom burger has bleu cheese and grilled onions and mushrooms. They don't have vegan cheeses available, but I happened to have some vegan cheese with me and asked that they replace it with my cheese. The proprietor was very accommodating and happy to make the substitution. They do however provide veganaise, both in the cafe and to purchase in jars.

Both burgers were good and came with a side of a small salad (tabbouleh the first day and some kind of homemade coleslaw the second) and some chips. They had a few other menu items that were vegan including a garden salad, hummus plate and a few sandwiches that did not appeal to me, like avocado and garlic.

The staff were all very friendly and the place had three good sized tables inside and a couple of tables outside. Price-wise it was a good value -- the veggie burger was around $7.49 and the portobello mushroom burger was about $7.99.

The market part of the business is small -- only a few organic produce items, but a good enough selection of plant-based foods and staples that a vegan staying in town for a few days could be comfortable making meals -- supplemented by some food from the nearby Bullock's grocery store. Not bad for a town with only 6,000 people, but would like to see more vegan options on the menu including vegan cheese (daiya or something good), and other options like maybe tempeh bacon so people could have the option of vegan or non-vegan BLT (for example).

Pros: Good value, friendly service , good food

Cons: no vegan cheese -- brought my own
