Better than fast food; not the best.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe
Fort Myers (3 locations)

If you’re used to vegan juice bars with healthy wraps, this place will be a little bit of a disappointment. But it’s still way above Subway for vegan fare. In other words, it’s a chain, so don’t expect too much.

They serve chicken but offer a vegan chicken option for each of their selections. The wrap came with a small side of kale and apple slaw that was gluten free and vegan. It was a little sweet and spicy. I would have preferred more kale.

I had the Thai chicken wrap made with Beyond Meat, a vegan version of chicken. The Thai peanut sauce was a little on the sweet side. I would have liked more greens (lettuce & spinach) and no wontons, which seems like filler.

The Sunrise Sunset smoothie was standard chain smoothie. Possibly made with added ice, but I can’t be sure.

According to Wikipedia, with more than 600 restaurants in the U.S., Tropical Smoothie Cafe is opening a new store every 3-4 days.

While I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend them to vegans, it is very good news to see an expansion of a healthier alternative to fast food. That they have made Beyond Meat a permanent fixture on the menu shows just how quickly the vegan market is growing.
