Removal of Plant-Based Chicken

This is a hard review to write and I'm giving it 2 stars by judging Tropical Smoothie Cafe as a vegan option restaurant as it's listed rather than a juice bar. My review as a juice bar would likely be higher.

In the past Tropical Smoothie Cafe, had offered a vegan, plant-based protein that can be used as a substitute in any meat entree - this location as well as others have phased out that protein. The dramatically changes the menu options for vegans. Where previously, that helped open up a ton of sandwiches, salads, and wraps - the most "vegan" options are now: the peanut butter flatbread (which features honey which many consider non-vegan) and the hummus wrap (which requires both cheese and ranch to be removed). At this point, there are no fully vegan ready-to-go food items on the menu, though many can be made vegan with substantial customization and key ingredient removal.

On the other hand, the peanut butter flatbread I ordered was really good. I really liked the melty peanut butter, honey, and fresh bananas with the granola crunch. It was a really solid menu item and great light lunch/breakfast. I wish there were other more substantial options as I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this.

In terms of a juice bar, Tropical Smoothie Cafe features plenty of vegan friendly juices and smoothies and even vegan pea protein. At this point, I'd have a hard time recommending Tropical Smoothie Cafe as a vegan restaurant - even a fast-casual one, but I would say it definitely is a quality fast-casual juice bar with workable vegan bites if needed. The staff was also very kind and did hope they would add a new vegan protein in the future. Tofu, Falafel, or anything else would be a big improvement.

Pros: Pea Protein in Smoothies, Fast Service

Cons: Removal of Plant-Based Chicken, Limited Food Options
