Options but expensive - Edit
The menu was clearly labelled with several vegan options. Staff were reasonably friendly. It was very expensive though; the cost of an expensive gastro pub, with the decor of a mediocre pub and the food portions were tasty but very small

Underwhelming - Edit
Promised a lot on the website with their Vegan options. However, the place was dated, food overpriced and bland. Dessert was tasty, but again pricy for what you get.

Excellent and thoughtful vegan options - Edit
Over the last 25 years we have been regular visitors to this part of West Wales and it has been encouraging to see how the provision for vegans has improved there over that time.
Read moreThe Trewen Arms is an independent country pub, hotel and restaurant which always has at least three vegan main course options, three vegan starters plus suitable deserts on its menu as well as there always being a vegan roast available on Sunday lunch times.
On our last visit to West Wales (October 2020) we dined here on two occasions, the first time out of curiosity and the second time because we enjoyed our first visit so much. Its really great when you see a nonvegan establishment go out of its way to make their vegan options both varied and exciting which is exactly what the Trewan Arms has done.
On our first visit the chef came and spoke to us to ensure that everything was fine and it was encouraging to find that he clearly understood veganism and was prepared to keep the preparation of the vegan options separate in his kitchen.
Over the many years (nearly 50) that I have been vegetarian then vegan I have been served with some truly dreadful meals so it came as real joy to be served with the quality of dishes that are available here. As already mentioned the vegan options are varied and imaginative, the "Buckwheat soba noodles, crunchy seasonal vegetables, Japanese-style sesame sauce, tempura-battered vegetables " is consider by the chef as one of his signature dishes and is really worth trying.
So if you find yourself in this corner of Wales when more sensible times return I would strongly recommend that you seek out the Trewen Arms
Pros: Excellent Vegan options, The chef has a clear understanding of veganism, Friendly service
Cons: Not entirely vegan
