Language barrier, does not seem to understand vegan

We were offered a few options after mentioning we were vegan, with the help of Google translate since the owner doesn't really speak English. The owner seemed to understand and used the word "vegano", offered us pasta pomodoro as a main (the rest of the people in there had that too). We were confused when he put parmesan on the table but decided he must have forgotten we were vegan in that moment. He offered us turnips with fried cheese as a secondi but Google translate didn't translate the cheese part so we trusted that he was going to give us something vegan since he said he understood and the previous review said he understood vegan. After a while reviewing Google translate history we realised it came with cheese so we asked to change the order to without cheese. He read our question and grunted, seemed to understand and went about his business. The food then arrived with cheese and the turnip greens fried in butter. Since there was a big language barrier we decided to eat the greens but leave the cheese (to prevent food waste) and just pay the bill.
We couldn't pay with card even though it said the place takes cards on the door (WiFi issues) and all we had was a 100 euro. Understandably he couldn't take the 100 euro and after a while he got a younger man to lead us to an ATM up the road. We managed to pay that way.
He didn't charge us for the turnips with cheese and butter, maybe he had realized we were not vegetarian but vegan by then.

Pros: Cozy place, Food tasted nice

Cons: Language barrier, Can only pay in cash and not 100€

Not the best looking but a good restaurant

I Recommend give a call before going there!
Here you can try typical dishes with a very good vegetables

Patient and accommodating

Vincenzo and his wife were happy to help us build a suitable dish. Each dish is made to the preference of the guest based on the ingredients in house, not a menu, and Vincenzo was very descriptive in making sure that my dish would be appropriate. He made me a light roasted vegetable appetizer followed by a beautiful vegetable soup that I could barely finish! I really appreciated how thorough he was with going over the ingredients he wanted to use for my dish, and that he was already familiar with what “vegano” means.

Pros: Cooked to guest preference, Thoroughly descriptive , Changing menu and ingredients

Cons: Knowledge of Italian language required
