gem of a spot on the edge of Antigua - Edit

This is a super little place. I remember when it opened a couple years ago and I wondered how it would make it out in such a (relatively) isolated spot, but in many ways the location is to its advantage as it's away from the tourist crowds. It's really just a 15 minute walk from the center (or a 5 minute taxi ride) and definitely worth the trip. Also the kind of place where luck and timing plays a factor, if you get there on a good day you're going to be in heaven... if not, pickings may be a little slimmer, but there's always something good. fantastic burritos, soups, samosas, and lots of creative snacks. seating isn't ideal, but once you get used to it it's a lot of fun to sit upstairs with some friends (in the right weather). Definitely check this place out if you're in the area!

Pros: unique, delicious, cheap

Cons: a bit far out, varies from day to day

Delish!!! - Edit

Wow- I was SO surprised to find such excellent food, and SUPER friendly staff in this little corner spot in Antigua.
Very inexpensive, and really, by far the best food in ANY restaurant that I ate in in Guatemala.
The chef was there everyday that I visited!
10 Yums up!

Pros: Delicious, Delicious, REALLY delicious

Cons: a little far from center of town.

Great Little Hole in the Wall - Edit

We visited twice in late June, 2009. The place was easy to find and had "Deli Vegitariano" as well as the Tras la Puerta Verde name on it. The special was on a board in English, but the menu and all service was in Spanish. There was only one table for four and one for two; the first time we sat at the two spots at the counter, thereby looking directly into the kitchen. This is a mom-and-pop type operation, the cozy kind. The first time I decided on vegan pancakes, and they were puzzled because it was different from the menu but they did it custom-made. They had the soymilk on hand -- in fact, I was able to buy a vacuum-packed vanilla Silk from them to take back to my hotel for cereal I had brought along. The second time I got the special, which was quite good. Their salads are glorious, and it's definitely where you go if you're hankering for hummus. They haven't yet gotten the word about whole-grain rather than white flour, but they were wonderful and friendly. It was a big relief to find them, since this is not an area where the restaurants generally know what to do with vegetarians, and this place has a good variety of options, is entirely vegetarian, and has a good local flavor.

Pros: excellent food, good prices, friendly servers

Cons: white flour, styrofoam for takeout
