Best ramen I've had

I had the second ramen on the menu, I think it was the truffle ramen with oyster mushrooms? It was the best ramen I've ever had. The okra was also nice, gyoza too, and the tofu dessert was definitely worth it. The black sesame iced drink was also delicious and really unusual! Not overly sweet. Super quick service too

Delicious food. Lovely, understated service. Only complaint, it was a bit pricey.

Highly recommend!

Beautiful atmosphere, calming music, friendly staff and yummy food!
A bit on the pricey side but good for a nice dinner out!
Would recommend making a booking by calling because it gets very busy and you’ll have to line up otherwise.
Also get the dessert, it’s delicious!

Absolutely delicious ramen and unagi

Came here for Valentine’s Day lunch - bit of a queue but you can book through WhatsApp. Really thick and umami flavoured soup with the ramen, absolutely delicious. Will definitely be coming again.

Delicious and creative (allium free)

We were only in Sydney for a night so we ordered a few things. For entree we recommend the lions mane mushroom bites, for those used to oyster mushroom karage imagine the same delicious flavour but a more dense and meaty texture. The silken tofu was a nice change with a lovely sauce and the edamame was well seasoned. The Sichuan tan tan ramen (mild) had a nice flavour and presentation with the charred oyster mushrooms adding a lovely flavour. For those who aren't into ramen the rice dishes were solid and came with a portion of Miso soup. Note: the booking system of the website doesn't exist so text the number on Google to book. Venue is clean and nicely decorated with very helpful and accommodating. AND THE BEST THING ITS ALLIUM FREE!

Amazing Japanese food

Food overall was amazing. We came with 6 people and all tried different ramens. We came with 2 omnivorous friends, and they loved it too.

My favourite was the tan tan range 😍

Good ramen

Fully vegan, very popular but now accepting reservations (would recommend) huge line outside during the week as well
Vegan ramen S1 ordered spicy was good and flavourful (not really spicy though) not as good as in Japan obviously but good for Australia
Would not order the appetizer again (20$ for 7 small pieces of lion’s mane)
Ramen delicious (32$)
Appetizer came together with main dish
Service absent they make you order through QR code and really hard to flag them down

Ramen love

Maybe the best ramen I’ve ever had. I’ve visited twice and tried truffle ramen and sichuan tan tan men, both so delicious. Also the dumplings and ”eel” dish were really tasty. Very peaceful place.

Absolutely worth it

I can tell they put a lot of thought and care into the rich, well balanced and full bodied flavours of their dishes. The truffle ramen was so smoky, creamy and full of truffley goodness. I like how each ramen is different, they come with veggies and topping to match them, rather than a generic set for each dish. The kaarage lions mane was amazing - I'm not a mushroom fan and this did not taste like mushroom - it was delish!! Definitely worth the price tag for the flavours, experience and the ambiance of this lovely restaurant 😍

Towzen Sydney – A New Vegan Ramen Favourite

Towzen has quickly become my top pick for vegan ramen in Sydney since the closure of Lonely Mouth in Newtown. I’m genuinely excited to return and explore more of the menu!

For around $80, I enjoyed a delicious spread:

• Truffle Ramen: A luxurious bowl with a truffle-infused walnut mylk broth that’s rich, earthy, and deeply comforting. The umami hit was perfect for a chilly evening—pure soul food.

• Yaki-Gyoza (6 pcs): Crispy, golden dumplings filled with a savory veggie mix. These were so tasty they had me doing a little happy dance between bites.

• Japanese Soymylk Pudding: Silky house-made pudding topped with kuromitsu (Japanese black sugar syrup). Honestly, this outshines both Vietnamese tofu pudding with ginger syrup and Chinese tau fu fa—so smooth and flavorful.

• Premium Kyoto Uji Matcha Strawberry Latte (Iced): A refreshing blend of vibrant Uji matcha and house-made strawberry purée. Easily one of the best strawberry matchas I’ve had—if only the cup were bigger! My straw did break halfway through, but the staff kindly replaced it. I’d definitely grab this as a takeaway if I’m nearby in the CBD.

• Cold Tofu with Sesame Dressing
Chilled silken tofu topped with rich sesame dressing, garnished with seaweed and tomatoes. This was the most umami cold appetiser dish I’ve ever had!!

• Thai Green Curry Ramen
A fragrant blend of fresh grilled vegetables, homegrown mushrooms, fresh walnut mylk, tangy green curry sauce and heart-healthy olive oil is paired with delicious ramen noodles. For those who enjoy an umami green curry with a mild spicy hit!

• Sparkling Yuzu (Iced)
Refreshing Japanese yuzu with sparkling water. I think out of all the yuzu drinks I’ve had so far, this has got to be the most refreshing and delicious version I’ve ever had 😄

• Unadon Set
Handcrafted grilled fillets, adorned with a glistening glaze, serve atop Japanese rice. Comes with Miso soup and housemade pickles. This set turned out to be higher than my expectations! Decent portion and full of flavour 😋

New Japanese Restaurant

The restaurant is located inside a heritage building which gives that lovely vintage character to the place. The atmosphere is very quiet and peaceful - even with a full restaurant.

We had the mushroom karaage, the silken tofu loaf, gyoza, ramen and the soy pudding for dessert. The taste was excellent and the substitutions worked very well for the traditional dishes. My favourite dish was the ramen - the noodles were just right and the soup was the perfect combination of cream and oil.

The service was exceptionally quick - I cannot say that I have been served that fast! I highly recommend for a wonderful dining experience.

Exquisite Broth

What a find. Expensive, but worth it. The ramen is spicy and complex and a great choice from the menu. I really liked my ramen and my husband, being a meat eater, thought that his was up there in the top three ramen soups he has ever had!

Great Meal

We arrived about 40mins before the kitchen closed and the restaurant was packed, however they were still happy to serve us once a table became available. The waiter was extremely helpful and went through every dish on the menu with us. We had the Karaage as well as the Si Chuan Tan Tan Men and the Premium Hemp Charcoal Soymylk Ramen. Everything was excellent! We preferred the Si Chuan Tan Tan Men which is the most popular dish. The soy meat in the dish was really tasty.

best I've had yet, but...

Had the Kyoto ramen, the broth was amazing got a depth I hadn't tasted before in other vegan ramens. Maybe an acid? Go here if you can spend $30 on a bowl

but:
- no extra noodles allowed
- store manager treated me odd (?), didn't feel welcome

Great whole ingredients

I ate solo at Towzen and was sat at a community table that was so silent it felt like I'd been transported right to Tokyo, where that kind of experience would be common. Everything about Towzen felt very Japanese, which suggests an authenticity (to the extent that word can be given any weight when talking about food) that was reflected throughout the meal.

I really enjoyed the lionsmane karaage and the soy milk pudding. The okra was nice enough, too, as a compliment to the larger meal. With the ramen, I loved the ingredients in the Kyoto Soy milk Ramen, especially the presumably homemade yuba which was fantastic. The ramen itself left a little to be desired for me. I've made a lot of homemade soy milk and it tasted, to me, less like a broth and more like heated homemade soy milk. I believe Kyoto ramens are much milder so it might be my selection at fault, and I'd love to go back and try another because again everything was quite fresh, the entire experience was memorably restorative, and the staff was kind and efficient.

Fabulous place to eat, great food that is worth the price.

What a wonderful place to eat! The ramen was fabulous and really filling and the manager sat and chatted with my whilst I ate, sharing the history of the brand from its routes in Japan.

I was initially hesitant as I am generally sticking to cheaper restaurants, but I really think I got my money's worth here. I went for the Si Chaun Tan Tan Men which i strongly recommend. I will be going back to try other dishes.

I would have tried the gyoza too but my budget couldn't stretch that far. The ramen was really flavourful and the soy broth gives it a unique flavour. The presentation was very impressive and I almost felt guilty messing it up with my chopsticks.

I'm a big ramen fan and this was among the best I have been served. Definitely one to try if you are in Sydney.

Pros: Great food, Friendly staff, Good portions
