Fantastic for Vegans; A Hidden Gem!

Tonnau Restaurant is situated on the ground level of the Caerwylan Hotel and is open 7 evenings a week to non-residents. Built in the early 19th century, the hotel is in a great vantage point of Castell Criccieth and the sea (Bae Tremadog).

The recently redesigned restaurant run a fully vegan evening menu alongside their standard evening menu. The dishes were varied and intriguing, which meant I was struggling to decide on what to have, and I was nearly drawn in by the Broccoli and Spelt Salad main and Belgian Waffle dessert. However, I finally decided on Grilled Aubergine as a starter, Miso Glazed Mushrooms for my main and Raspberry and Chocolate Brownie as dessert. I also had a side of Rustic Fries and Onion Rings to share with the main and a Boozy Hot Chocolate (Tia Maria, my booze of choice) to accompany my dessert. The food was incredible. The starter was rich and flavourful, and I didn't want it to end. The Miso Glazed Mushroom was perfectly cooked and finely presented, and every element was sublime. The brownie was really lovely and chocolatey. Some may think the hot chocolate with it may have been overkill, but I'm glad I had it as it was the nicest alcoholic hot chocolate I've ever had by a mile!

I'm really surprised that Tonnau Restaurant has not yet been reviewed on HappyCow. From what I gather, they have been running fully vegan menus for quite some time. They clearly care about being inclusive of vegans, and I, for one, would happily return. Tonnau Restaurant probably offers one of the best evening dining experiences for vegans around the Criccieth area, and I really recommend a visit!
