Lots of old school vegan and vegetarian staples

Fantastic vegan French onion soup, lots of tempeh, tofu, non meat alternatives, vegan milkshakes and cookies, and falafel out the wazoo.

An All Time Local Favorite

Tommy’s is one of our all time favorites. We would give it 10 stars if we could!! The food is delicious, consistent, and portions are plentiful. They offer a large selection of vegan shakes and they are amazing. Our favorite is the oatmilk shake - chocolate, peanut butter, and banana. Their French fries are the absolute best! I could be very content having just fries and a shake. However, it’s hard to pass up their many other vegan options. One of our favorites is the Ceebee- pita sandwich with falafel, hummus, veggies, and vegan mozzarella. The Delaney is another favorite- a tempeh Ruben sandwich. Our daughter‘s favorite is the veggie burger. You can’t go wrong no matter what you order. Just make sure to get the fries and a shake!!

Pros: Delicious food , Fun atmosphere , Friendly staff

Cons: None!!

Tasty food, lotta vegan options

Been here a few times, and always enjoy it. Diner-style food (lotta sandwiches, falafel wraps, salads, etc) is pretty good. Menu is very clearly marking vegan things.

Sandwiches are large enough for a meal, but don’t come with sides. Maybe next time I’ll remember to order a side of fries and take home half a sandwich.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Reasonable prices

Never got my order

About a year ago, my friend and I ordered online for pick up. Even though we ordered and paid for the food online, when we went to pick it up, only my friend got her order. When I asked about my food, the worker said that there was no order under my name. I was disappointed, especially since I enjoy the high-quality food and the abundance of vegan options here.

The OG

Tommy's offered vegan before vegan was mainstream. SO many choices but I can never not order the NS (falafel, baba, and veggies pita). Don't skip the fries.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Great family run business

Vegan food has changed, Tommy's not so much

Tommy's is a cultural institution in Cleveland Hts., it's been around for a while. Generations of families come back again and again, with new parents relishing in the memories of coming in with their parents decades before. They were ahead of the curb on the vegetarian and vegan scene, offering tofu dogs and boca burgers long before vegan options became the norm. These are reasons to appreciate Tommy's and be sure to check it out if you're in the area.

Now, for the food. For what you get, essentially oldschool diner food, Tommy's is pricey. The prices are comparable to those served at shops with freshly baked bread and house made seitan or veggie burgers. In my opinion, the prices went up with the times but the quality of offerings have pretty much remained the same.

With the exception of the Tofutti and Rice Dream shakes, the oldschool "vegan meals" simply aren't very good when compared to the handmade stuff restaurants are pumping out today. A tofu pup and boca burger are memorable in so far as they signify how bad things used to be for vegans. Many diners require more effort in their vegan options these days and, to be honest, that requirement was long overdue.

To summarize, Tommy's is worth a visit for it's history alone, it's essentially a symbol of Cleveland Hts. with it's oldschool liberal and family oriented vibes. Of course, also mirroring the city, it's menu has struggled to keep up with the times.

Pros: The shakes and their long history in the Heights.

Cons: Outdated menu

Like a really good friend invited you over for lunch :)

It’s hustle and bustle, but kind people and lots of delicious food to satisfy any hunger. Tons of vegan options, including breakfast and dessert! The cookies and vegan milkshakes are toe-curling outta this world - really great fries, and tons of beautiful plants all inside along the windows

Pros: Lots of vegan options - including dessert :), Breakfast, weekend brunch, lunch and dinner

Cons: Busy during rush hours, wait can be a while

Lots of choices

They have a very large selection of items, most of which can be made vegan. The serving size is quite sufficient. The "milk" shakes are absolutely great! The decor is a bit rustic, but we go there for the food, not the decor. Since discovering Tommy's several years ago we make it a point to go there every time we are in the Cleveland area (we live in California).

Pros: Portion sizes, Everything they serve.

Cons: Parking - garage & lot nearby - bring quarters, Restrooms - okay, but could use improvement

Cool spot with good eats

Great place to bring non-veggie friends and still find tons of options for the whole group; vegan and gluten free. After you’re done eating you can browse books at the connected bookstore ;)

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Nice atmosphere in fun town, Good prices

Good good, fun atmosphere

The wait to be seated is often quite long, but with a bookstore attached next door, it can also be amusing. Plenty of veg and vegan fare in an old-fashioned feeling establishment. Good food and friendly vibes.

Pros: lots of veg options (and vegan shakes), old-fashioned atmosphere , generous portion sizes

Cons: often a long wait to be seated, a bit on the expensive side

Favorite!

Tommy's is one of the few things I miss after moving from Cleveland Heights to Cleveland proper. The vegetarian options are endless. The falafel sandwiches are not quite authentic Middle Eastern (try Falafel Cafe at Univ. Circle if you want authentic)but they are delicious and varied (e.g. a falafel sandwich with barbecue sauce that is very good. I also recommend the veggie burger, spinach pies, milkshakes, fries, and everything on the breakfast menu. Seriously, the breakfast menu is great.

I do not know how anyone could possibly leave this place hungry. I am a big eater and usually take home food.

It is a little noisy but I don't have a problem hearing my friends - just not an intimate dinner date place...more of a hanging with my friends and catching up place or take out for movie night.

Also, for any non happy cow users reading these reviews: four stars is the max for a non-vegetarian restaurant. Sad since this place probably offers more vegetarian options than any place in Cleveland.

options

When my friend told me not to expect too much in restaurant options for vegans/vegetarians, I thought well maybe a few choices for Tommy's. Little did I know that I would have a choice of many! During my stay in both Ohio and Mich. I had to eat out several times and both times were terrible due to lack of options. I ate at Ruby Tuesday's and Cracker Barrel and they need help desperately with their menu if they ever expect to attract the nutritional aware customer! Due to power outages I had to resort to restaurant eating although at home I cook from scratch so I know what is in the food and it is QUIET.

Not Worth The Price

Even though we loved the atmosphere at Tommy's, it was not what we were expecting. It is cold and loud, not the place for a large party that wants to hear each other. There were a few items on the menu that were "vegan" however we questioned the bread and condiments. The bread did look and taste like it had non-vegan ingredients in it. In addition, we were shocked at how pricey it was for everything!!!! The sandwiches run for around $8.00 plus tax and it is just a sandwich. If you want fries, you have to pay around $4.00 plus tax on top of the high sandwich price. Also, there are no side dishes really - so don't think you can just order a few side dishes. We left very hungry (had to stop somewhere else for more) and our pocketbooks were empty. Even though we live in the area, we will not go again. So, if you have money to waste, go ahead and try it but really it's not worth it. Plenty of other places.

Pros: Vegetarian Options, Nice Decor, Friendly Servers

Cons: Pricey, No side dishes, small portions

Long time favorite

Tommy's has been the most popular restaurant in the Coventry area for decades. They have great salads, soups and veggie-friendly middle eastern foods, but their baked spinach pies are by far the draw for me. You can get a pie with many, many combinations of psinach, baba, hummus, veggies, cheese, sprouts, BBQ sauce and more. I recommend the Paisano. They also have a nice selection of tea and smoothie options, plus wicked desserts. Tommy's is located on Coventry Street, an area that is unfortunatly undergoing gentrification, but is still a fun place to shop and goof off.

Pros: Spinach pies, Salads, Spiked hummus

Cons: Parking
