Traditional

Veggie / vegan bento box was delicious. Lots of different veggie items on there - two kinds of sushi, 6 kinds of pickles, 2 salads, a hot dish and rice. Would be nice to add some tofu as well but nice for a quick lunch. Free green tea as well - bonus. Lots of singles eating there and not many tables so beware the lunch rush.

Cozy env, alright food

Service and atmosphere are great, 10/10 for those. The place is cozy and quite traditional, I like it a lot, it really reminds me of Japan.

When it comes to food, I wish they had more vegan options.
I also wish the vegan options were clearly labeled. Some items have a green "veg." tag on it, but the fact the tamago don contains the same tag seems to indicate it stands for vegetarian. This makes hard for us to quickly spot which items are suitable for vegans without having to check directly with staff (they were very kind to answer my questions though).

I had the tofu katsu curry. It was good but not as good as I expected for a 17 pound dish.

Pros: Service is great

Cons: Not so inclusive for vegans

The vegan option was really good: a bento box!

Pros: Good food

Cons: Very few vegan options

Amazing Value, Such a Treat

I love it!

I've been going here for years (more than 20!) and nearly always have the vegan Diner Curry with a miso soup on the side. It's a properly authentic Japanese experience and for me makes up a stop on a perfect day in London in combination with the Prince Charles Cinema.

The Katzu thing was very on-trend a few years ago, and it's like this without the fried stuff, but with hearty winter veggies. The secret is to order Omori (a large portion) rice for free. Everyone gets Genmaicha tea and rice crackers also for free.

Even though it is an omni place to eat, they are still mindful about how they source their ingredients. Authentic Japanese style, they don't take tips, but if you wanted to, they encourage you to donate to the local homeless shelter (cool right?)

Pros: Authentic Japanese Experience, Free Genmaicha Tea, Super Affordable with No Tips

Phenomenal, authentic Japanese restaurant

Having spent over a month in Japan myself as an exchange student, I can attest t to the fact that Tokyo Diner's food is quite authenic! Offering many vegan options, this is a fabulous place to enjoy asian cuisine. The ocha tea is delicious, as was the zaru soba noodle dish I ordered.
