Lots of review bashing but no support from vegan community

I went in for a quick lunch on Saturday afternoon. To my surprise the venue was dead, as was the street itself. Upon speaking with the owner, I learned that the massive lack of support from the vegan and vego community had forced them to pivot away from plant based.

I also learned since opening they had their kitchen staff walk out on them because they could not handle the pressure of plant based ,( even though the 1st chef was vegan!!??) And had taken 2 months to replace the team.

I am vegan and found this quite sad, considering the comments I have read here have been quite inhumane in their own right! A venue that has been open for only 4 months received so much hatred from the vegan community they felt they had to make a drastic business decision to continue.

I feel more shamed of my vegan community than anything else. No wonder vegan restaurants are struggling. Sad part is I doubt ANY of the poor comment writers could cook better in a restaurant setting.

On ending, my lunch of a chickpea burger was fantastic and the chips were delicious. The foodchain salad I ordered was all raw and had an amazing smoked vinaigrette, something new to me! Who knew you could smoke vinegar!!!

I went very early on and was willing to give them a go. I wanted to love it. I do think the vegan community should support vegan restaurants. I go out probably 3-4 times a week to vegan places. But I can’t support them all and I’m not going to love everything.

I was intending on going back on Saturday but I won’t be going back now. It will be interesting to see if they survive with the menu change. It also says something about vegans who don’t normalise vegan eating which frustrates me.

Big excitement but under delivering

Finally made it to try our new vegan restaurant in the neighbourhood.
Sooo sad that it simply did not deliver.
Mains were tiny, not with $30
Mushroom skewers were dry/shriveled up- not restaurant quality. No taste/marinade just side of sauce.
Phish and chips ok, but again tiny- with curry sauce. Not my fav.
I enjoyed the slaw.
Croquettes were plain/tastless - just deep fried mash.
I really hate giving a bad review - but the showcasing of vegan food is so important.
They won’t last,m I’m afraid, vegans will try and support, but it won’t be enough to keep them afloat!

All vegan, but they insist on one cocktail with egg white?! Not sure why they would bother to
Ruin the fully vegan tag.

Pros: Ambiance , Friendly staff , Vegan (apart from one cocktail)

Cons: Small portions , Not that tasty (bland)

Early days

I saw on a social media post that this restaurant/bar had opened and I was excited to try. I thought it was fully vegan, but they use eggs for their cocktails.

I noticed since I last looked at their menu they have only 2 mains now (was 3). It could be because it is new and a weird time in Australia to open that they changed the menu. I’m not sure.

We both ordered mocktails to start which we enjoyed. We shared the miso corn ribs for an entree. They were tasty.

I had the phish and chips for my main and my partner had the lions mane herbed mushroom. After a while my curry sauce came out (I was about half way through my meal) and the sauce really added to the flavour of my phish, which I did enjoy, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the slaw. My partner said his main was cold.

We decided not to try the desserts.

It’s a lovely space and the people were nice and I hope they can make a go of it (if they swap egg out for aquafaba). But I’d like to see more shared plates/different entrees from their mains.

Pros: Lovely space, Corn ribs

Cons: Egg for cocktails, Limited menu

Disappointing on the egg white and dairy (for coffee) front. Please report the incorrect 'vegan' category to Happycow as it's quite misleading.

I did report it. HC now has “please verify if drinks are vegan.”

Thanks for clarifying the drinks situation. Hope the acquafaba and wonder foam work!

Also good to know about seasonal menus.

Best wishes.

I really hope they change the menu or ingredient to leave out the egg white.
