Delicious

I really enjoyed Tofu Shoten and I was surprised how much of it was for taking home. I feel I would have rated it 5 stars if I could actually try that at home products.

Everything I had was nice, it just wasn’t game changing.

Loveeee

Big fan of beans and tofu!!! Cute shop with a selection of vegan-friendly tofu products (not all vegan though), snacks, drinks, sauces and desserts. Tofu nuggets were superb and flavoursome and crispy. Had them with the maple tarragon mustard, yum.

Best tofu ever

We come here every week for our tofu. 10/10 better than any you will get from supermarkets or Asian grocers

Epic donuts

The tofu donuts here are incredible, such a good texture; somehow simultaneously dense and chewy as well as light and airy? They're truly a delight. The tofu nugs with sweet and sour sauce are also an excellent snack/lunch option. Staff are always lovely too and happy to answer any questions you have about their range of products.

not bad

I've only ever had the soft tofu dish served warm, and I do prefer it that way. The coconut palm sugar sauce was lovely but there was not enough, I couldn't taste any by the time I was halfway through the dish. The ube mochi had a beautiful silky texture although I couldn't taste ube.
Wasn't a fan of the tofu fritter texture (crumbly and soft). It was nice and lemongrassy though and some fresh chilli.
There's a really cute tiny park at the end of the street to eat at.

Yum

Got the potato and tofu thing and it was excellent! Great texture, not too potato-y. Four stars as it’s not fully vegan unfortunately but still great

TOFU SHOTEN NOT CLOSED!!!

As of October 2024, I believe Tofu Shoten is not closed - it has just relocated to Brunswick. This place was sooooo cute and equally as yummy. As the name suggests…they know their way around the soybean.

We got the kinako mochi which was refreshing and light, as well as two tofu donuts which were honestly the BEST donuts I might ever have had. Fluffy, soft, crispy, flavourful, and of course…HOT!

Highly recommend making a trip to Tofu Shoten, this would be my GO-TO tofu spot if I lived in Melbourne for real!

Biscuits (shop is not fully vegan)

I came here after looking at the menu outside and seeing there were a lot of vegan items. They label the sweets that are vegan, but not everything is so just check. I got two biscuits the matcha and strawberry one and the chocolate and chestnut one. I thought they were nice enough but probably not to my taste which isn’t their fault. Staff were lovely.

I do want to try their fried tofu so I will return for savoury items.

super soy

Sadly I can't afford to buy their tofu all the time but feel so fancy coming here as a treat. The shopfront is minimal and stylish and the staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. There's often a line out the front when the market is open but that's mainly because they only allow 3 people in the shop at a time.

I can never go past the potato and tofu fritter with lemon grass and chilli. Love to wash it down with a glass nutty black sesame soy milk on ice. Their homemade soy milk is THICK so wouldn't buy it for coffee. The red sugar flavour is almost like pudding but it's great on ice. A real treat!

Also love the okara biscuits in rotating flavours, especially the sweet potato cream and red bean. Check their Instagram to see if soy cap is on the menu - soy milk mochi, coffee cream, and choc biscuit crum, yum! Otherwise their are other vegan mochi or tofu tofu based deserts on rotation. Really want to try some of the warm tofu deserts next.

The ganmo and smoked tofu are my favourite things to take home. Be aware they don't use preservatives so you need to eat them up within a few days. Everything they sell is so carefully and lovingly made. One of my favourite vegan-friendly businesses in the city.

A place designated for tofu! What a dream!!

Such an amazing place near the Queen VIC Market. The soy milk is so organic that I found it hard to drink on its own hahha definitely not like the cartons you buy in the supermarket with added sugars etc. The smoked tofu was quite pricey and I would have preferred if it was firmer but it was still incredibly tasty. Lots of new things to try here. This really is the place for VEGANS!!

It’s quite pricey but you pay for the quality!! Definitely a place to go if you want to treat yourself

Pros: Organic, fresh and incredible quality , Minimalistic style, Encourage BYO bags etc to reduce waste

Cons: Pricey
