Tokaya

Review from late 2019. Tocaya offers a number of vegan options that are pretty good. I docked them a star because they intermixed my vegan tacos with my dining partners meat/cheese tacos using the same tray. Not sure why they would do this when I specified vegan and let them know I'm allergic to dairy. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Aside from that, I had the Cali and Baja tacos made vegan with vegan protein filling and vegan cheese. They were good but needed salt (which I added). We also decided to splurge on calories and ordered the vegan churro ice cream sandwich dessert, which was excellent.

All and all, this is a good option for vegans, just make sure you are a PITA about having your food separated when you order.

Pricey but Good

My favorite item (Venice Beach Bowl) went away and this depresses me. Figured I'd start with that in the event any Tocaya people are seeing this.

Usually when a restaurant like this offer's "pick your protein" bowls/salads, there's nothing for vegans but a "well...how about extra avocado?" response. But Tocaya offers 2 vegan protein options: vegan picadillo and tofu.

The picadillo is a blend of Beyond Meat, vegetable and spices and is pretty tasty. It's my usual go-to. The tofu is very well seasoned and also quite good.

They also have two shredded vegan cheeses available. Not sure what brand they use but they are both kind of....meh. They have a plasticy texture. I’d pass on them.

The bowls are portioned a little small, which is nice for an easy lunch, but when you're plant-based and looking to load up, it's a little short. Flavors and freshness of everything are great.

Chips and guac are ok, but not worth the extra price. Tacos look good, but I haven't tried because the vegan options aren't very taco-friendly. Would be nice, since they already use Beyond Meat, to add the Beyond chicken strips or other option for tacos.

The line at lunch time is a little outrageous, going out into the mall and down to Van's sometimes, but it moves at a good speed. Downside is that they don't hold orders based on seating, so you could order and then wander around for a while looking for a spot.
Would be better if it were a sit-down, server restaurant, especially since there's a bar and getting up to order more drinks at busy times can be a hassle.

Really nice decor inside, love the outdoor seating and drink options.

Pros: Two good vegan options, Fresh ingredients and great flavors

Cons: Pricey, Busy times are challenging for finding a seat.

Delicious modern Mexican food

Tried the vegan picadillo taco and adobo tofu, they were really good!! Especially the vegan picadillo! $10 bucks for 2 tacos, a drink and a side. Took a side of guacamole and it came with plantain chips. Delicious!!

Pros: Great value, Delicious, Great vegan options

Perfect lunch spot

Healthy fast food, only took a couple of minutes until we got our food. Nice place to create your own taco, salad or bowl however you like it.
