A Vegan in Crete: Generosity on Every Plate. - Edit
Being in Crete is already a pleasure. Finding a fully vegan, family-run restaurant is like spotting a goat on a yacht. This one’s run by Stelios, the father, though his nephew, Stelios, is always around. By my second visit, they tucked extra dessert in my bag. By the third, Stelios slid over his favorite dish without asking. The son cooks. The father owns the place and waits tables, proud but unassuming. The nephew greets you like family. The food is vegan, gluten-free if needed, locally sourced, and the house next door is theirs too. You’ll leave full, but you’ll come back for the generosity.

Amazing welcome and great authentic food - Edit
Visited twice during our trip and were very well taken care of. Fully vegetarian with vegan options for most things. We tried the Cretan pies, fava dip, moussaka, mushroom stew and pasta and it was all tasty. Staff are very welcoming and gave us tasters of other dishes and desserts too.

Lovely place and delicious food - Edit
Absolutely worth a visit! Super cute place. It’s clearly family run, with only 2/3 staff I was expecting slower service as it was quite busy - but service was so fast and excellent. We ordered a lot and waiter honestly told us it may be too much, but we managed it as it was all so good!

Cozy friendly restaurant, super tasty food - Edit
We were so lucky to find this place, we loved it. Very nice atmosphere, great service and the best vegan food (many options, so it is really difficult to decide - the hummus was the best we ever had in a restaurant, so don‘t miss it). We will definitely visit again when we come to Chania next time.

Three of us ate here and we had a selection of mains and desserts, all the dishes were lovely and we are looking forward to visiting again before we return home. We try to sample local cuisine so this was an inspired choice to do this!

Nice vegetarian restaurant with a lot of vegan options - Edit
Nice vegetarian restaurant with a lot of vegan options. I took Cretan Spinach Pie (without feta) and a delicious vegan Pastitsio (see picture). Everything was excellent! (My boyfriend is not vegan nor vegetarian, but he absolutely loved everything). The waiters were lovely, too. I heartily reccomend this restaurant 😊❤️

Wonderful place, very special! - Edit
Having a meal at To Stachi was a special experience. It is a family restaurant with meals cooked home style and healthy, and you really taste that.
Read moreWhen we entered, the friendly owner explained all the dishes to us and we felt that his heart is really in this restaurant.
We chose the moussaka and the gigantes (beans) and both dishes were delicious. We also got a small portion of an onion dish and a small piece of almond cake for free. The cake was great and the onion dish was good, too, although we aren‘t really a fan of onions.
I also had the Greek mountain tea, which was fantastic.
We really enjoyed our visit here and highly recommend it if you would like to have an authentic experience.

This place was so good. The welcoming staff/family were so nice. Lovely to chat to a little and if you speak a little Greek to them it goes a long way.

Had a sweet to finish and that was the tipping edge of overindulging, but it doesn’t matter when the food is so good!

Incredible food and service! - Edit
My husband and I ate here everyday when we visited Chania recently. The yemista (stuffed tomatoes, dolmades and zucchini flowers) was some of the best we have ever eaten.
Read moreTheir chickpea soup, pastichio (pasta dish) and kalitsounia (cheese pies) were excellent too. My husband requested chips (french fries) and although not on the menu, they kindly made this for us. The service was fantastic and would highly recommend!

Slow Food Served Swiftly - Edit
There were so many vegan options that it was hard to choose. According to the menu, all the dishes are made with extra virgin olive oil from their farm. The Cauliflower was served with black eyed beans and tomato. The Chickpeas soup was made with lemon and the Lentils soup was made with tomato sauce. The Halvas was made of polenta, brown sugar, and seasonal fruits. They even gave us a free sample of Galaktompoureko (almond milk custard pie) and watermelon. I liked the savory dishes much more than the sweets.

Outstanding cuisine that’s mostly vegan - Edit
We were blown away by the incredible flavours - traditional Cretan and Greek cuisine which was all vegetarian and most dishes were vegan or could be made vegan on request. Very fresh and flavourful. Highly recommended when in Chania, especially if you’d like to try traditional vegan cuisine in a plant-based way!

Neat spot but suffers from small size and big popularity - Edit
A small, family owned business with a great vibe, but so popular I often had to wait for a table. Unfortunately they sell out of food each day, and both times I went it was for dinner and about half the menu was no longer available for order. Food hit the spot, but having to order my third or fourth choice both times put a damper on things.
