Hidden late-night vegan adventure! - Edit
This vegan restaurant is above a storefront (allegedly empty, though there were a couple people cleaning when I walked through). Cool vibe upstairs, run by a one-man-show. He was pretty direct with me, but I don’t speak Chinese… I heard what I assume to be friendlier communication with a couple locals. So, I won’t hold it against him. I am the one speaking a non-native language.
Read moreAs for the food - it was pretty good! I tried a tuna rice bowl that was decent, and great Korean chik’n. The chik’n was a mix of mushroom pieces and plant meat - the plant meat was incredible, the mushrooms a bit tough but still good. I would return to try more of the menu!

Cool vibe - Edit
Don't be put off by the shopfront! Go up the stairs and find yourself in a neon lit room with a serious chef who thrusts a menu and a post-it note at you to take your order. We ordered Korean chik'n, a tempura rice bowl, and okonomiyi. The chik'n was the standout for flavour and texture. The other dishes were tasty, although the okonomiyaki was a little on the greasy side. We enjoyed the experience although the unsmiling chef was a little unsettling! An interesting experience for sure.

What a lovely atmosphere - Edit
This restaurant can be a little bit difficult to find it is on the second floor and you have to go through a seemingly closed restaurant. But don't worry the atmosphere on the second floor is much better than the somewhat weird atmosphere on the ground floor. The restaurant seems to be run by one guy, so cool seeing him do everything.
Read moreThe menu is quite extensive both Korean, Taiwanese, and Japanese options. I tried the green pepper tuna rice dish. Normally I don't really try plant-based fish dishes but I have to say I liked it quite a lot. But the other dishes also looked amazing. On the side I had some spicy cucumber and kelp miso soymilk soup. Both excellent!
Was interesting to see the television channel of Loving Hut being played on the laptop, potentially there is a link?
Pros: Great atmosphere, A little bit hidden which adds to the atmosphere, A great one-man show

Hidden gem - Edit
When you can find it it’s a really lovely place. Quite small seating area, we were lucky to get the last places. The owner seems to do all on his own, cooking, serving, cleaning etc. but he seems to have a good organization and was very friendly. We had two appetizers and two mains and all four were absolutely great. Perfect taste. But as mentioned as it’s a one man show the food came a bit delayed and just one by one.. but that was alright as it was soo delicious. So absolut recommendation when around in Kaohsiung!

Amazing hidden gem! - Edit
The food is super tasty! The owner does everything by himself. Truly a one man show. He has an English menu available but whatever choice you make, it will be tasty! We only had one dish each and that was sufficient for us but we saw others order more. Ps. The location might be a little more difficult to find. It’s on the second floor of an abandoned shop. Upstairs it’s cozy so please go!

Cool dude - Edit
Cozy little restaurant on the second floor. I like the dude's style. He doesn’t say anything. He just hands you a post-it note and a menu. I used that as an opportunity to pretend like I know how to write Chinese characters. Really good food. 非常好吃!I went twice.
Read moreThe service was a little slow, but I didn't mind it. I enjoyed the vibes. I mean, it's one dude running the whole place.
Pros: Open late, Affordable

Late Night Vegan Snacking - Edit
Loved this hidden restaurant with yummy snack foods. The take on Korean Fried Chick’n was awesome, and there were a lot of other tasty options. Kind of had izakaya vibes, but just one guy working there.
Read moreIt’s on the second floor of 423 in case you get lost looking for it. Just walk in the empty shop and up!
Pros: English Menu, Open LATE!
