Creative presentation of delicious food

Expect to be here for over an hour as you enjoy this fancy 9-course meal. I think my favorite was the flaky pastry. The hand rolls and tofu were also highlights.

The restaurant overlooks a little garden which would have been nice expect that I think it must have some standing water as I got bit twice by mosquitos while dining inside.

For what’s offered, a bargain at NT$770 per person.

Pros: Perfect amount of food, Nice variety, Artful presentation and ambiance

Cons: Standing water outside? Mosquitos

Aesthetically and gastronomically pleasing

This omakase (i.e., chef's choice) kaiseki vegan restaurant combines a beautiful, Zen ambiance with seasonal dishes. I booked ahead of time by messaging them through their Facebook Page in English, and the staff were happy to note any food allergens in our party so that the kitchen could accommodate everyone's needs. When the day came, one of our dining companions had to leave in less than 30 minutes of arriving to return to Taipei in time for a last-minute appointment, but the staff took it in grace and reduced our reservation size from three to two without giving us a hard time. It was her loss, really! 😝

The entrance is a bit nondescript: you enter via a break in the bamboo fence and pass through the front garden before entering the restaurant. Look for the sign with the restaurant's name on it in Chinese: 田土山.

My absolute favorite dish was the barbecue lion's mane mushroom pastry: it was an excellent replacement of the dim sum dish that traditionally uses pork. The staff also asked us if we wanted a second helping of the mushroom rice. I should have asked for more, but at the time, I didn't feel that hungry. We did drank a lot of the complimentary, bottomless herbal tea.

I was stunned at how affordable our lunch was: only NT$660 per person! The only issue was that they only accept cash, but at least my mom had enough cash on her to cover our tab. I would definitely come back here more often if I lived closer. It's a fun day trip from Taipei, though!

Pros: beautiful dining experience, excellent value

Cons: cash only
