Serves one dish: Beans and rice with toppings, in two sizes. Can make vegan by asking for no sour cream or cheese or you can just say to veganize it. Also has tortilla chips, macaroons, cookies, kombucha, and several drinks. Walk-up window, no seating, but there are benches one block away. Part of the Portland-based eateries. Open Mon-Sun 11:00am-9:00pm.

Simple but great

The food is so simple but just so good. The sauce is magic, and a generous portion of avocado pulls everything together.

Cute late-night

TWB is a walk-up window-only eatery with one Bowl (mexican/SW inspired). They’re open late and on weekends. It’s tasty, but portions are grossly small for the price. Great if you want something late-night out on Clifton, but there’s better places for *actual* tasty food in the neighborhood.

Pros: Great location, Open late, Quick service

Cons: Only one dish, Overpriced

One of my very favorite places to grab lunch!

Brown rice, 2 kinds of beans, an AMAZING tali sauce-tangy & creamy, salsa, HALF an avocado, black olives and cilantro! Always supper fresh, made to order so you can add more tali sauce or leave off the olives, etc. But I love it as is. Several sizes available; I get the bambino, but there’s a large family or party size. All are very CHEAP!! Several drink options including local kombuchas and a couple desserts, chips and guacamole also on the menu. Order at the window in lovely, walkable University area called Clifton on Ludlow. All dishes and utensils etc are compostable. Service always very friendly and accommodating. Hang out with locals for a great experience. They even have a powerful overhead heater to serve in winter months and a parking space reserved for pick-up, but we all usually squeeze into a few spaces and bus stop without much trouble for the quick order and pick-up. Online order and delivery available. Unbeatable❣️So delicious ❣️

Pros: Very tasty tali sauce; delicious , Quick & cheap!!, Super friendly; unique walk-up experience

Cons: No indoor dining; but see “cheap”, above!😁

We Ate The Whole Bowl

The Whole Bowl is literally a window in a wall but still manages to have a great aesthetic. Even though they don’t have seating they are well worth a try. They have two bowls, the $5.50 Bambino Bowl (12 oz) and the $6 Big Bowl (16 oz). Each bowl comes with rice, beans, avocado, salsa, olives, and cilantro. The non-vegan bowl has cheese and sour cream. Let them know you are vegan and they will happily not add the animal products. The Whole Bowl also has Kombucha for $4 and other drinks for $1. I would recommend visiting this beautiful and tasty WHOLE in the wall.

Pros: inexpensive, quick, easily veganized

Cons: no seating, takeout only

Vegan fast food

Walking distance to my relatives' house - all of us walked up there for lunch on the day of our reunion. One relative said - vegan! I'm in - and the rest followed. The Whole Bowl is a storefront on Ludlow Avenue with the menu posted out front. You choose medium or large - and pick your ingredients. I got the large bowl with everything (with the shredded cheese and sour cream on the side). When you're traveling, it's good to get some good protein and brown rice! Convenient, friendly place - great food.

Pros: inexpensive, delicious, friendly service

Cons: this is take-out (one table out front)

Tasty and Fast

This place is a walk-up window on Ludlow Street. It's all vegetarian and very simple to order. You can order vegan or with cheese and sour cream. And small or large. The cookies are unfortunately not vegan. You can go to Clifton Natural Foods a block or so down for dessert. There is no seating which is ok since I want it to-go anyway. There are benches a block away and across the street a block down.

I always get the large vegan bowl (6.00). What a steal. It's very filling and healthy. Brown rice, black beans, salsa, olives, avocado, cilantro and tali sauce. Tali sauce is made of nutritional yeast and tahini it tastes like. The stuff is addictive. My partner leaves avocado off so yes it's customizable. They also have Hansen sodas and local Skinny Piggy kombucha.

Pros: Cheap/fast, Always tastes good, Simple/healthy/filling
