I had the only vegan dish on the menu—ginger fried tofu with warm veggie salad. It was just like that: four small tofu triangles over grilled veggies. For NZ$35. Granted, the tofu was well-seasoned, the grilled veggies were not bad, but totally not worth the price. My partner had the ribeye steak. He said the best thing on the plate was the potatoes. The total bill came to NZ$80 for two main courses sans starters, desserts or drinks. Don't bother with this place.
Superb little restaurant with an imaginative chef - Edit
This unassuming restaurant is tucked away in Wanaka. With a fairly overgrown garden you can't really see anything about the restauarant until you're inside - but this was totally worth the gamble. There was only one vegan main option on the menu (and 2 on the dessert menu) but that didn't matter because the meal was exquisite. Apparently a vegan owner and vegetarian chef which shows in the thought that went into preparing the food - ginger and chilli pan fried tofu with mediterranean veg. The dessert was equally delicious -chocolate coffe stout sorbet. So good I didn't want to stop eating. Expensive but worth every penny.
I would give this 5 cows if the rating system allowed me to do so.
