Great vegan find at local chippy

A local chippy with a welcome surprise: vegan sausages (you get four) and vegan nuggets (eight), both served with chips and cooked in a separate fryer from the meat and fish. The food was tasty and generous. The menu could be clearer, as it only lists vegan nuggets and uses an asterisk system that’s a bit confusing, but staff were happy to explain when we asked. We had ours as a takeaway, so can’t comment on the café itself. We came prepared with self-catering in case vegan options were limited on the island, but were pleasantly surprised.

Pros: Generous portions of sausages and nuggets, Separate fryer for vegan food, Staff helpful when asked

Cons: Menu labelling confusing

Good food

Amazing to see some options on Bute in a chippy.

Great staff who understand what veganism is. We had the battered sausage (richmond-like, you get FOUR), with chips, and a portion of peas (which are pre-minted, lovely)

Good food, cheap prices, and great to see some options.

Thank you for this, Nick; I’m on the island and now excited for my battered sausage, tomorrow!

Limited options are better than no options

Okay if you want sausage or beef burger. The options are mainly around whether you want them battered or not.

Really basic chippy but convenient for the centre of Rothesay.

Pros: Some vegan options , Good sized portions

Cons: It’s a bit basic

Good selection of options.

A nice little cafe and chip shop. There is a separate vegan menu with 7 options. The staff are knowledgeable and the food is delicious without being too greasy.

You can’t sit in but the beach is a five minute walk.

Pros: Good selection of options, Uses Bute Cheese, Nice staff

Cons: Limited options, Greasy food, Pricey

Great little cafe

Im so glad I found this spot. We were worried that the only vegan options on the island were day time cafes and then we found West End. There's great range of chippy suppers and you can get takeaway or eat in. Be careful eating in as we were served coleslaw with two vegan dinners.

Pros: Good vegan options, great prices
