Disappointed after the good ratings here

Seems a newly built, small but comfy place. Outside, very nice during evenings when it's cooler.
We took the food with us, and must say the tast was very disappointing. Meatballs and inside dumplings tasted the same: like not really matching spices, not blending, and warmed up more than once.... The lumpia's were ok. We don't understand the good reviews here... or maybe we got spoiled by the great food at Veganize Bohol (Tagbilaran) and the Vedge Bohol (at the chocolate hill's resort - Panglao)

Pros: Evenings a nice spot to sit and socialize, free water, Lumpia's were eatable 6/10

Cons: spaghetti with meat balls: 2/10, Dumplings 3/10

Amazing vegan cafe on Panglao

This was the first eatery we tried on our trip to Bohol and it did not disappoint. We were greeted by the friendly owners and enjoyed the outdoor setting, with several rescue animals moving around the wider space. We ordered the tofu katsu, the laing and the dumplings. The katsu was different from what I expected, quite textured, like a crumbed fried fillet, and very nice. It was the first chance I got to try Laing, and it was good but not amazing. The dumplings were tasty and so rich we had to take some home, but somehow we still had room for churros, which were delicious. I discovered they had specialty coffee at the co-located coffee shop Kahu, so ordered a latte to go with dessert. This made me come back for morning coffee next day and we also had their scrambled tofu with longannisa and their pancakes. Both were good, but the pancakes needed something a bit creamy or liquid to go with them. We came back for lunch and tried the sushi tempura everybody had been talking about, and, while I liked it, it wasn’t as amazing as I’d hoped. Staff were lovely and friendly. There was one adorable puppy and one cute kitten (Biscoff, I believe) who interacted a lot with us, so you’ll likely get some attention from them if you dine here. This is a must if you’re on Bohol, and particularly Panglao. P.S. We discovered the owners also had a small rental car business, so give them your vegan pesos if you need this service. #Veganuary

Pros: Vegan-owned business, Delicious food and specialty coffee

Wir waren begeistert

Sehr leckeres, nicht scharfes Essen.
Wir kommen definitiv wieder.
Besitzer kennengelernt: all s regionale Produkte.

Superb vegan cuisine

Lovely and cozy atmosphere, and easy to find.

Food was absolutely delicious and delightful, especially the sushi tempura and vegan dumplings. Very innovative flavours, excellent presentation and good value for money.

Also appreciate the offer of oat milk with specialty coffee, which seems rare on this island!

Very helpful staff, and only a short wait for the food. Would recommend to anyone, absolutely anyone (also non-vegans!!) when visiting Bohol!!

Pros: Oat milk with coffee!!!, Rich and innovative flavours, Value for money

Should go there!

Mushroom chicken and dumplings were delicious.
Sushi roll and pad thai were just okay.
The owner was just too nice to have a short chat with customers.

Lovely FULLY vegan place with amazing people

The vegan shack is a fully vegan restaurant using organic food and keeping the prices low for the locals to start eating too. The food is amazing and the people might be even more amazing. The beautiful place its located at and the minimalistic design of the shack makes it a lovely place to get away from it all. They are on an amazing mission to get the Philippines to eat more vegan, so go over there, enjoy and support the mission. Go here!!

Delicious but look on google maps for the location

They were out of mushrooms so we couldn't take the chicken options but the burger was delicious.
The fries/potato wedges were not crunchy at all

Pros: Good English , Tablet/iPad with pictures of the food

Cons: Different location, Lätschige Pommes

The food here is amazing. They offer western and filipino food and coffee (with oatmilk). I came back multiple times during my stay on the island since it was the best food I had so far on the Philippines. The staff is really nice.

Best vegan food on Panglao

After living on Panglao for close to a year, I've found the Vegan Shack to be easily the best vegan option around. Affordable, delicious, local, and healthy. Also one of the only places I've been to on Panglao who care about looking after dogs - the owners have multiple rescue dogs that they have saved from the streets and look after, I overheard the owner mentioning that he had thirteen, but I'll double check the next time I'm back.

I've had multiple things from the menu, but my favourite is the vegan chicken and the sushi!

Pros: Owners and staff are lovely, Food is amazing, Great prices for what you get

Cons: A little bit tricky to find

A great Vegan dinner in a rather Vegan-unfriendly nation

Great experience at this vegan restaurant repurposing Asian and Western dishes in a meatless way. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is friendly and efficient. Highly recommend both the pad Thai and the Tofu Katsu!

Pros: Quality of food, The fact that it was vegan food, Look of the food

Cons: Not really a dislike but the pace is located oddly

Can’t wait to return

The venue is small and away from the more touristy spots so a great find. It’s cool inside which is great if you need to escape the heat and outside area had a lovely breeze. Beautifully decorated little place. Owners and regular patron were super friendly, they gave us advise on other spots to try too.

We queried dishes and were met with helpful answers and suggestions.

Food came out within good time.

Can not fault it and we have plans to return and continue to sample the menu.

They have rescue dogs and it is very clear they adore and take care of them.

Pros: Amazing variety , Tasted unreal- my best meal in Philippines so far, Lovely staff

Cons: Not closer to accommodation 😂 worth the trip

My favorite place on Panglao

I tried food in several places on Panglao, but this restaurant is definitely the top one. Its not only tasty food and excellent caffe but also cozy atmosphere, AC, nice owners/staff and its quiet (despite being located along a busy road). Totally reccomend.
P.S. be aware that the default option for caffe is caws milk, I avoid mistake as I ask automatically for vegan milk, so remember to clarify once you orer

Excelente

Pros: Sabores originales, Sitio, Perros rescatados

Not vegan, but vegetarian

They have a fish that is kept in a very tiny jar in the restaurant. It was very disturbing for me as a vegan. They also use cow's milk for coffee.

They are not vegan, they're plant-based.

As vegans, my friend and I were really looking forward to trying out this place, thinking it was a fully vegan spot. However, we were greatly taken aback by the presence of a live fish in a small jar inside the restaurant. The owner said it can survive in the tiny space, but taking fish out if its natural environment is cruelty, and a place that calls itself "The Vegan Shack" should not do this. We also found out that while the food menu is completely plant-based, they use fresh cow's milk for their coffees unless oat milk is requested, which they charge extra for. The owner was quite friendly though, and we hope they might consider moving towards becoming an actual vegan establishment. It's great that they offer delicious and affordable plant-based food, but unless these concerns are addressed, we would not be returning here.

Pros: Food is delicious and affordable with big portions

Cons: Keeping a fish in a small jar in the restaurant, Coffee menu uses cow's milk as default option, Charging extra for oat milk

Appalling 😣 . And to make it even worse, you had to give them two stars because they were classified as vegan when you wrote your review 😒 🙄

Great coffee!

Loved the iced latte. I am not sure it was vegan, though. Oht oh. We also ordered the tempura roll and Liang. The tempura roll was good and creative. The Liang was supposed to come with peppers but didn't. It was still a delicious lunch and the presentation was great!

Since this review I returned and the food was even better than before. I had to walk there through the mud and the owners helped me clean off my feet and shoes. They are very kind people.

Incredible food, incredible owner!
We go the sushi, spaghetti with meatballs, wrap and dumplings. All of which was so delicious.
My partner got a coffee and said it was the best he’d had in all of Asia.
The new location was a little hard to find, in the end we followed the new location details on Facebook and got there from Alona beach in a tricycle reasonably easily.
Loved it! Would go back if we were staying closer!

Pros: Flavour, Variety of options , Great ownership

Cons: A little hard to find

Nice food, small portions

Really good vegan filipino food! Sadly a lot of the things were not available when we were there. The Sisig was good but a small portion. Dumplings i also recommend! Spring rolls were not special even tho worker there recommended them to us. The dumplings felt very fresh but can’t say the same of the sisig

Pros: Many options, Filipino food veganized

Cons: Not everything available , Not sure if fresh, There was a dead ant in our food

Burger and wrap are below average

The burger was grreasy and mushy and weak. Wrap is lacking tomato and red sauce, the tortilla is bland and too thick.
Philippine meals are great though

I loved having Filipino vegan food options.
The flavours were great.
We nearly didn't find it, it's tucked away at the back corner (near doorway to toilets)
