Cool vibes - Edit
The vegan cheesesteak has homemade seitan and comes on a delicious sourdough with mushrooms and peppers.
Read moreThe vegan oreo brownie is perfectly fudgey and rich!
The vegan ramen is super tasty. It comes with broccoli, mushrooms, kimchi, seaweed, and tofu (I think you can get with seitan too). There was a sweetish spice rub on the tofu that was so good.

Super Disappointed - Edit
Sadly husband's grilled cheese was missing the spinach and my pulled pork was missing dressing/sauce and flavor. Servings were small and prices high. Zombie like staff never smiled or thanked us. Wanted to love this small local joint but had such a bad experience it really bummed us out.

My Happy Place on the Cape - Edit
My parents have a house down the Cape about 5 minutes from here. When we are down visiting them, I always come over here for the vegan menu. It’s always fun takes on great sandwiches. Today was a vegan take on pulled pork, which did not disappoint. They sometime offer a vegan Philly cheesesteak—which is delicious. Their vegan baked goods, especially the biscotti, are aces.

Cute place, good food - Edit
Stopped here for an outside lunch during the pandemic with a group of non-vegans. I had the hummus wrap, which was good. Nothing earth-shattering here but it’s really cool that the menu has an entire vegan section, including a tofu scramble. Every place should offer a tofu scramble! Staff was friendly. Good choice.

Really Solid Vegan Eats - Edit
Great “steak and cheese” made with homemade seitan. Veggies on hummus wrap are both fresh and pickled, which was a nice contrast. Vegan chocolate chip cookies were so good that my old school 67 y/o dad didn’t notice, and my 8 y/o non-vegan because mom is a vegan chowed them down. So nice to have a place on the Cape with reasonable prices that ISN’T a fish place and I don’t have to have a garden salad and French fries!

Great Vegan Lunch Spot - Edit
I have had lunch here a number of times and have always enjoyed my meals. I especially like their Seitan sandwich and their coffee is great. And yes they have almond milk for the coffee.

Love it. But.... - Edit
Pretty good place. They have tons of vegan baked goods and a good variety of vegan foods to eat. Coffee options are good and they of course have almond milk. The meals however are pretty small, well the vegan ones are. There’s some non vegan breakfast sandwiches that are big. But I suppose you go there for something small and some coffee anyway. Nothing too crazy on the menu it’s not like super home made or anything but it’s all tasty and it has a good vibe so I can’t complain.

What’s that have to do with their small portion sizes?

It has nothing to do with the portion size it has all to do with the fact that you said it’s not like super homemade or anything…

Not impressed - Edit
Have tried the underground many times and have never been impressed with their vegan menu. Most of it is diaya cheese or soy product. I knew someone who worked in the kitchen and have been told some interesting stories about their treatment of vegan items

great food, improved service - Edit
I gave The Underground Bakery a great review two years ago (2016), with the caveat that the service was very slow. I then went there twice during a summer vacation week last year (2017) for sandwiches and there were no problems at all in service and the food remained excellent. Just went there this week (2018), ordering in advance, and my vegan “cheesesteak“ was ready when I got there and excellent. I also ordered a few days in advance a vegan carrot cake, and it was the best vegan carrot cake for the cake portion itself that I have ever had, although the frosting could have been better. My non-vegetarian family members also loved the vegan carrot cake.

FORGOTTEN ABOUT - Edit
Absolutely the most frustrating experience at a restaurant ever! My family was very excited because we saw all the vegan options on HappyCow. I was very excited about the many options I asked the very young girl which option she recommended. She preceded to tell me she has not tried any of it, which in itself is odd. We then ordered and sat in the tiny seating area that was full of smoke it was burning my sister’s eyes. Being the only ones in the restaurant it was confusing it was taking so long. After about forty-five minuets we spoke up and they said they couldn’t find out slip, a.k.a THEY FORGOT ABOUT US. The worse part of it was the fact we did not get a single apology. The girl was defensive but we did out money back and left. We have been once before and the food was subpar anyhow. The ramen was not spicy, the grilled cheese was tiny, and horrible seating situation. Never going back!!

BYO mug for 99-cent coffee - Edit
We popped in for a breakfast in November, and although the options and portions looked kind of small, both were vast. It was easy to order vegan, and even though the resulting dishes looked tiny, they were in fact very, very filling. I ordered the tofu scramble wrap- which looked very small- but of which I could only eat half. The coffee was the best around, and if you bring your own drinking vessel it is only 99 cents to fill up! There was boxed soy-

Pros: great coffee, vegan distinctions made easy, affordable nutrition
Cons: small space if you want to eat in

small portions, full of flavor! - Edit
Underground Bakery is unique and they have multiple vegan options. Today I got the seitan 'cheesesteak' with house made seitan, mushrooms, roasted red pepper, melted Daiya cheese and onions. I got in on a panini but they also offer it in a wrap. So yummy!! It was a fairly small sandwich for $9.50 but it was totally packed with seitan and I was full by the end! Other vegan options are a tofu scramble wrap, seitan and veggie ramen, soup and mac and cheese! I got a vegan Oreo cupcake for dessert. Underground Bakery is a cute, casual spot with great vegan options, yummy coffee and helpful staff. I'll definitely be back

A handy spot - Edit
The Cape isn't the most vegan-friendly spot, so Underground Bakery is super handy as you can actually get vegan food. We have eaten the tofu scramble wrap, which is good when you add a little salt and hot sauce, and the seitan cheesesteak. Only occasionally have we got vegan baked goods, but despite this, you can still get lunch there.

There is a few vegan bakery items. They had a small basket full but a large selection of nonvegan items. They did have a tofu scramble wrap with a choice of rice and beans or homefries.

No thanks - Edit
The Underground isn't worth the drive down from the Outer Cape that's for sure. And, I have to disagree with the previous reviewer it is hardly a must when you visit the Cape. So many better options. We found the food to be bland, the baked goods seemed to be missing something, maybe moisture? The most disturbing as a vegan is I question how fastidious they are about keeping animal products away from the supposed vegan items ... they just didn't seem that buttoned up and more concerned with the music and chit chat with each other than on professionalism.

Awesome - Edit
Now I added the bakery to Happy Cow so maybe I am biased, but this place is the coolest bakery on the cape, they have something to offer everyone, and if they don't then they will try their hardest to get you what you are looking for. Young owners make you feel welcome, and love what they do. This is a MUST visit when going to the cape, especially when you want some fun vegan options.
