Must visit! - Edit
We were looking for a spot where we could get something of a taste of KC barbecue and just some good vegan food and Tree Hugger delivered. The jack fruit bbq sandwich was awesome and just what we were looking for. Cauliflower wings are always a classic but the Mac and cheese was on another level. We got a pop tart to eat for breakfast tomorrow. Had a big selection of games which we enjoyed immensely. Will definitely be back when we're in the area.

Midwest Vegan Comfort food - Edit
What a surprise it was to find a vegan restaurant in the Midwest. I admit, I’m a skeptical and biased Californian. Plugged my GPS straight here from the airport.
Read moreFirst of all, too many vegan goodness options. I was hungry and EVERYTHING sounded great.
I settled on the buffalo cauliflower bites and the KFC BBQ Sammy.
The cauliflower bites were perfect. You know how cauliflower can get soggy? These were not. Crisp and with the perfect amount of breading.
The KC BBQ was everything I remembered when I last ate pork back in the 80’s. My memory flooded with times from my youth but with the added comfort knowing no animal died for my tastebuds.
Go here. It’s that effing good 😋
Pros: Big menu, Comfort food, Ample seating
Cons: Too much to choose from (also a pro), Not close to where I’m staying

best vegan sammies in mizzou - Edit
i don’t know how i’ve lived in southwest missouri for almost two years and until very recently have slept on tree hugger kirchen—the food there is phenomenal!!! i’ll never be able to say enough good things about the reuben, and the caesar salad wrap was also great. the sweet treats are also excellent—the molasses ginger cookie was huge and perfectly chewy and the peanut butter pie was likewise excellent, full of peanut buttery chocolatey goodness…i can’t wait to go back!

Got the Monte Cristo😄was good and love that they practice zero waste by implementing compost/ recycle bins and not just a singular trash bin.

Great Kansas City Gem - Edit
Love the vibes, good kid options with grilled cheese and burgers, fries that are more mellow in flavor, but super flavorful bbq jackfruit sandwich and walnut chorizo nachos for the adults. Supports local breweries/drinks. Love the effort of being environmentally conscious with recycling/composting!!!

Delicious and Satisfying - Edit
Not health food, so don't get any ideas! I don't think they even offer a salad. I usually get the chili and a classic cheeseburger, both very hearty. The dining area is comfortable, and the music they play is awesome if you like alternative and classic rock. I like that they use compostable materials. Pricier than standard fast food but worth it if you care about animals and the environment.

Cons: Pricey (but not outrageous)

Worth the drive! - Edit
We stopped at Tree Hugger 8 hours into our long trip to Omaha. I had the Hunny mustard chicken Sammy and my husband had the fish tacos. Our food tasted great and the people there were very nice. I ordered ranch for my fries. The servings were large and filling. They had a lot of options although my husband wished there were more options not trying to imitate meat and just stand on their own. (For example a tofu specific dish or a tempeh dish)

What a find! - Edit
Vegan junk food is right! The Monte Cristo sandwich is a behemoth and honestly would probably make you sick if you ate the whole thing, it’s so greasy. I also found the chicken Caesar wrap to be oddly sweet, but my husband did not think so. Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu!

Good food in a nice space! - Edit
I thought there was a good variety on the menu. They will also “customize” as I had tomatoes removed due to an allergy. The tots were hot and crispy and the chickpea meatloaf sandwich was delicious.

Vegan Junk food - Edit
We were passing through Kansas City and got takeout from here. It was good for the area, as I didn’t expect to find good vegan options in KC. The Mac and cheese wrap was delicious but pretty heavy, Caesar wrap didn’t have a lot of flavor surprisingly since everyone rated it so high…and the fries were good. Good for a quick bite.

Comfy fast food - Edit
Always well made food and sizable portions. I have not had one thing on their menu that was not great! Staff is always great and willing to let you make modifications ex chili cheeze fries with tots instead. Check out their instagram for different riffs on their dishes - example “bbq Sammy- Phil style” to get it with onion ring instead of straws on ciabatta bread 🤤
