Accommodated me really nicely

No vegan options on the menu but they said they could do a falafel burger or a Mediterranean pasta. I had the pasta, it was a good portion and even came with some violife halloumi! The waitress was really friendly and I felt very taken care of. There was some sorbet on the menu for dessert but they ended up having a vegan brownie and vegan chocolate ice cream as well. It’s a bit on the pricier side but a very nice place and I really enjoyed it😄

Ok but a pricey struggle

From other reviews, the hotel can do a vegan risotto or burger so always annoying you have to ask rather than it just being on the menu. Rather pricey £16 each for a chickpea burger and a few chips. Surprised wasn't even a side salad. £9 toffee pudding was served with dairy ice cream despite double checking meal was vegan. Meal was ok but nothing I couldnt have done after a trip to the co op myself. Did get apology but said don't worry about swapping ice cream when they said they were trying to find some vegan ice cream. Surely it would be in the freezer? Didn't reduce the price though. It seemed to be a hotel mainly with travellers but aimed at a more serious customer with more serious prices, steak pie and mash about £18 I think. Nothing vg identified on breakfast menu. I found a packet of gluten free cornflakes (brought my own oat milk). Had juice and coffee. We were given 1.5 slices of toast each. No dairy free spread so just put some local jam (Tiptree, Essex - local to where we live anyway)on it. They managed a cooked breakfast of half a tomato, 5 mushrooms and a spoon of beans 😂 My wife negotiated a second dish of avocado on a piece of sourdough. Was included in room rate but apparently worth £20!

Pros: Staff polite , Rooms nice, EV charger outside

Cons: Too much like hard work , Average vegan food, Pricey for what you got

Good fancy restarant with vegan options

One of the more fancy places in the region. We specified that we eat vegan and had a couple options such as gnocchi, jackfruit burger and risotto. There was even a sarter with vegan feta. Food was good although maybe not fully in line with the prices. Around 20 pounds for a main dish. Would still definitely recommend to vegans traveling the north.

Pros: Vegan options, Good service

Cons: A bit pricey

Acceptable but hard work!

Managed a decent risotto with vegan cheese after a bit of to-ing & fro-ing. Very good vegan breakfast, again after quite a bit of explanation. No plant milk and customer service/understanding a bit poor given we'd noted in advance. But for a remote hotel the actual food was pretty good

Pros: Breakfast with sausage, avocado, spinach, mushroom, Risotto

Cons: No plant milk or vegan spread, Customer service not great

Should've had the risotto!

Had the vegan burger, it wasn't my sort of thing unfortunately. It was one of those vegetable bread burgers & then the chilli jam was very very sweet, it wasnt bad just not for me. On the menu was a risotto which I wish I had tried instead. On the plus the chips were very good!

Cons: Rather expensive, more than online menu

Top choice at the top of Scotland

The Tongue Hotel fed us well with excellent vegan meals morning and night for the three days we spent in the north of Scotland. The food was tasty and they had well-balanced complete meals, including appetiser and dessert options.

Their standard menu was clearly labelled with vegan options, but then they surprised us with a special menu including new vegan choices for the second and third nights, which we naturally tried and really enjoyed.

At dinner they had several vegan appetiser and side dishes, two mains, and a dessert. At breakfast they had a vegan full cooked option, as well as the toast and cereal buffet, and it's Scotland so of course there's porridge.

Now, this is a traditional hotel in the north of Scotland, not renowned for vegan options, so make sure you tell them you're vegan, and be prepared for surprises like haggis and blood pudding in the breakfast room, and taxidermied animals in the hall. Perhaps a tot of whiskey with your porridge will make it easier to bear.

Pros: Nice Staff, Adaptable, Good food, well balanced meals
