My new home - Edit
Wow. Wow. I was told this place was good. It exceeded my expectations in every way. I love tamales, and we know vegan ones are rare. This amazing restaurant/mercado offers four kinds. Yes, four varieties of vegan tamales! The price for the single combo (one tamale, two sides) is very reasonable and it's filling. I had the corn with chile powder, and a tostada sin leche y queso. So delicious! The red enchilada sauce is very fine. And with the large bottle of Mexican Coke, it felt like being back in Mexico. The place is big, very clean, very interesting. Even though it's a drive, I will return often. And now I will have vegan tamales at Christmas time. What a great find and wonderful place for Phoenix!

Really good tamales. - Edit
I liked the cilantro black bean ones. If you’re not a mushroom person you won’t like the southwest veggie one. The masa is good. Tamales are bigger than most I’ve bought. Instructions to reheat are clear and easy.

Bummer. Drove out of our way and our tastebuds were jumping for joy. Bummer that Happycow said open until 8pm. Only open until 7pm. Our loss.

A store that only sells tamales, hell yeah! They have a variety of vegan tamales, which are labeled. They may not have all of them when you go. At first I was disappointed they only had one option when I was there, but I was consoled by unlimited pickled jalapeños! They have a salsa bar, margaritas and mimosas, and the portions are substantial. I had two tamales and beans and am quite full. Very good tamales!

Delicious tamales - Edit
I tried the southwest veggie tamale. It was very delicious. They have signs that state they do not use lard in their masa. Vegan options are clearly marked, and the staff is knowledgeable about vegan food and modifications to non vegan dishes.
