Delicious food, friendly, cosy - Edit
My boyfriend and I visited for lunch after a big walk. We were very hungry and choosing from the vegan menu, there were lots of options. We went for a three bean chilli w rice, and a veg Penang curry. Both were so delicious, we decided to go back again the next day. We had the chilli again and the Bangkok bean burger. The second time, the chilli came with a huge freshly made tortilla chip bowl (instead of regular sized tortilla chips). Staff were friendly and helpful. We loved the Mary Jane ale. We tried to call both times to book, but no answer - luckily it's a big place so space available. Still cosy enough, open fire, dog friendy. Wish it was closer to home, we would go every day!

Fab food freshly cooked - Edit
Four of us came for a midweek lunch and had a lovely meal, all from the separate vegetarian/vegan menu which offers plenty of choice. Particular highlights were the lentil burger and the fishless pie, which consisted of mushrooms, kale and sweetcorn in a delicious creamy sauce topped with crushed potatoes and served with a side of seasonal veg. Everything was freshly cooked and piping hot and the service was great - everything you'd expect from a Yorkshire village pub!

Lovely heartwarming food - Edit
Stopped here on our way home from walking up Pen-y-Ghent. It was extremely busy as it was a bank holiday but we phoned half an hour ahead and were able to secure a table in the bar! Our friend’s dog was with us and there were lots of other dogs in the bar area too.
Read moreThere was plenty to choose from on the vegan menu! I opted for Penang curry which came with turmeric rice. I ordered extra curry sauce which wasn’t a problem! The food was lovely, I did keep adding salt and pepper though!
There were 4 vegan desserts to decide between, these were listed on the normal menu. I went for the raspberry and almond tart which came with soya cream, this was nice but could’ve been a bit sweeter!
I also had a decaf, caramel latte with almond milk.
A couple of the items were listed as vegan by mistake, so just check before you order.
The service was pretty quick, the food was good and the atmosphere was great, and prices were reasonable.
Chocolate was served with the bill, not vegan though.
I’d come here again!

Great Vegan Menu, - Edit
The Swan Inn reopened after a major refurbishment just over two weeks ago and I saw on Facebook that they now offered a vegan menu, so just had to visit.
Read moreThe menu has a great selection of vegan dishes, including starters, main courses, with soya milk and soya cream available too.
We chose beetroot falafels with tahini sauce and salad to share, as it was only lunchtime and it was a great choice. The falafels were delicious, with a lovely texture, not stodgy like some I have had and the tahini sauce was a perfect match and brought the whole dish together, we loved our starter.
Our choices for main course were lentil and seed burger for hubby and sweet potato, pumpkin seed and chestnut roast for me. Our main courses were as good as the starter, well cooked, seasoned and scrumptious, hubby loved the burger and the roast was moist with a great texture, not dry or heavy, so we left clean plates. I hate being over faced, so portion control for me was spot on. My only comment would be the roast needs vegetables and gravy instead of salad and cranberry sauce and mentioned it to Restaurant Manager Jane, who welcomed the feedback.
There was cherry and chocolate cheesecake available for dessert, Northern Bloc chocolate and orange blossom ice cream, but we were rather full, so finished with a coffee.
I think the menu at The Swan is fabulous and I love them embracing demand for vegan dishes, which are proving popular, so I will definitely be returning very soon. Highly recommended.
