Innovative and tasty food - Edit
While they open and close locations with alarming speed, this location has been a bit more stable and the food is always great.

Oh the Peacock salad!! - Edit
Delicious Indian-fusion. Not traditional Indian which at first I didn’t really like about it but they grew on me to the point that I love it now. The peacock salad is my favorite but I also love the tika masala, pakora plate, and the chapati.

Great flavorful Indian food - Edit
We loved the ambiance of the outdoor seating, and we had a nice amount of space for our elderly dog napping in his stroller next to our table. The staff was really nice and friendly. I had a mango lassi to drink, and my husband had a cocktail. I liked the mango lassi, but I hadn't realized how thick and filling it would be (hadn't had one in many years), so next time I'd stick with a lighter drink to save more of my appetite for the yummy food. We got the soy curl tikka masala plate, the pickled broccoli and cauliflower pakora, and the spicy cucumber. We hadn't realized we would already be getting cucumber with the tikka masala - we would have skipped that dish if we realized. The pakora was outstanding, and so were the soy curls, rice, and the dal. It was a lot of food for the two of us; we had to take about half of the pakora home for later.

So many options! - Edit
Loved how there were so many menu options. I had the special- stuffed Naan with beyond meat. It was pretty good. Naan texture was more like a Flatbread but still tasty. Also had the paneer which was good and the small was the perfect portion size👌

One of my Favorites - Edit
This is one of the best places in Portland. My favorite dish right now is the pakora plate. The slightly tangy pakora is fantastic and their large plates include a dal, masala, and other accouterments that make for a filling meal.

Comforting and nourishing - Edit
The Sudra has been recommended to me by several friends in PDX- for good reason. My partner and I split a curry thali plate with a side of chapati, and it was plenty of food for us both. Definitely try the soy curl tikka masala- it reminded me of my pre vegan days in all the right ways. We also enjoyed a mango lassi and tamarind limeade. The Lassi was excellent, but maybe not as sweet as others. The tamarind limeade was not my favorite, but objectively a good drink. Expect to pay about $20-30 per person for a good meal.

Some like it hot - Edit
The Sudra is a very cozy Indian vegan eatery with a lot of great options! I had the curry thali with soy curls for dinner, with chapati, mango lassi, and tamarind limeade. Plenty of food for two! I got it at “regular” spice, but I would definitely try it again at “hot” or dare I say “extra hot”? The “regular” spice level is great for those who are not frequent spicy food eaters.

Consistently tasty - Edit
Consistently tasty food, although on this visit the dish of food (dal bowl) was cold in places, mainly the rice. And, the chapati seemed reheated with an almost cracker-like texture. Despite this, the flavors are fantastic.

Relaxing low key place for delicious food - Edit
We are so used to Indian food always having paneer and ghee, so we were so happy to find Sudra that made tasty vegan Indian food. We loved it. Mango lassi, which usually has yogurt, was such a treat.

Amazing Indian Cuisine - Edit
We were so lucky to stumble upon some amazing, all plant-based Indian food here at The Sudra.
Read moreTheir menu is a slightly different take than just on the curries and biryani that you often see at most casual Indian spots. Rather, they have different plates, bowls, and rolls sets which offer a variety of different flavors and textures that will leave you guessing and wanting more.
We ordered the Lentil Kofta Plate ($16) which was FANTASTIC. Loads of veggies with a wonderful tahini dressing, brown basmati rice, and insanely good lentil koftas. I don't know how they made them but they were absolutely delicious.
Along with the plate, we also went with their Spicy Eggplant Roll ($16), which was a bit messier to eat but so, so delicious as well. The eggplant wasn't hot as I had expected when we had it, so it may have cooled down too quickly in the process. Nonetheless, both plates were so good and so flavorful.
Like most of the people there, we dined outside on the main street and it was a joy to experience nice weather and people watch with our food.
Pros: Expansive menu, Outdoor seating

Delicious - Edit
Deserves 5 stars just for the banana split I had for dessert. The food is tasty and they have a lot of options. I got two small plates and a entree to share with my wife and we had enough left to fill a take home box afterwards. The only thing to note is that you should probably research the menu beforehand or be familiar with the type of food because the menu can be a bit overwhelming trying to figure out what each dish is.

Excellent Eats in Portland - Edit
I had a great meal here with my partner during our Portland trip. I had a kati roll and my partner had their tikka masala with soy curls. Both were yummy and kept well as leftovers! Their mango lassi was a little thick, but I really enjoyed the TLC - a tamarind limeade with rum.

Great food! - Edit
To be honest, I’m not sure that a vegan Indian restaurant is strictly necessary. Indian food is so vegan friendly anyway, especially North Indian food, which is basically entirely vegan. I think by labeling it “plant based” it allowed the prices to go up as compared to a typical Indian restaurant. I also would’ve appreciated some naan or something else to go with our thali plates. All that being said, it was really delicious and very fresh food. The cauliflower was especially good! Would recommend for people that are hesitant to eat vegan, as this was essentially typical Indian fare!

Cons: Naan is extra, Pricey

Hi. I’ve not been to this place, I’m here reading reviews trying to see if I should- I’m Indian, and I find your review inaccurate. North Indian food isn’t vegan friendly by default- South Indian is. Also, thali is a South Indian concept, and naan is North Indian.

Only Place I Order Kale - Edit
I ordered the Peacock Salad and the Lentil Kofta Bowl. The Peacock Salad has kale in tahini dressing, soy curls, root vegetables, corn, and bell peppers. I don't like kale, but I order this salad just for the tahini dressing! The Lentil Kofta Bowl includes roasted cauliflower, kale, and onions in tikka curry. Again, the sauce makes the kale palatable. I liked it except it was a little too spicy for my low tolerance.

Pretty good - Edit
I’ve eaten here a lot over the years and I’ve generally enjoyed it every time. The sauces are delicious. However, the last time I went the food was SO SPICY, much spicier than it has ever been and way too spicy to eat. When I brought this to the attention of the staff they just shrugged and said it was supposed to be spicy. Afterwards, I DMed them on instagram about my experience asking if I can expect that dish to be as spicy in the future (so I know not to order it again) and was completely ignored. I really want to like The Sudra, but that entire experience has kept me from going back since.
