Artsy Cafe in Grand Rapids - Edit
The Stray is more than just a cafe. It is a community space, art studio, music venue, extravaganza that would appeal to any art lover.
Read moreWhen you walk into the stray, you never really know what you are going to step into. On the stage, that is the focus point of the space, I have seen acoustic musicians, an irish ensemble playing Celtic music, and a painter actively engaging in her art on canvas. It’s a great hang out spot that tries to be a haven for Grand Rapids artists. The space itself is lined with artwork from local artists that is able to be purchased.
For the drinks, they have all the standard cafe mixes, with alternative milks: oat and almond.
For food they have a vegan chorizo wrap and a vegan chorizo flatbread. I have had them both, and they are decent. The wrap is so stuffed that it become mush and the flatbread is untoasted and piled with food on top. Both are difficult to eat.
Unfortunately, there are no vegan pastries available which is a big bummer.
I recommend The Stray for a fancy coffee and a show. It’s nice that they have some vegan food options, but it is not the focal point of the restaurant.
Pros: Atmosphere, Live Music and Painting, Some Vegan options
Cons: Not entirey Vegan, No Vegan Pastries

the stray has found a home in my heart - Edit
i've driven past the stray literally for almost as long as i've lived in grand rapids. i always pass it and say to my husband, oh we should go! we always thought that it was an upscale restaurant or something, and finally we looked into it! it's such a cute cafe bar with tons of yummy food as well! and there's art and music and interactive activities! during the day, it seems people mostly tend to themselves, but it's a very conducive coworking environment. i'm sure during the evening, it's much more lively and a good place to make friends.
Read morei've been back two days in a row, and definitely plan to make more of an appearance here. very yummy, very friendly, very cosy too! i was missing a cafe with comfy chairs, think central perk vibes from friends😄there's tables, booths, and couches alike in here, all with a good view of the performance stage area as well!
