The Ship Inn
In 2016 this pub underwent change of management and is now offering a fully vegan food menu. The only non-vegan items are milk for drinks and some alcohol. The food menu includes vegetable curry, falafel, burgers, all day breakfast, sausages and mash, and sides such as tempura vegetables. Advertise itself as a "superfood pub." Has a range of books and board games available to borrow. Twitter: ShipOuseburn. Open Mon-Sun 12:00pm-11:00pm.

Will definitely be back next time we're up - Edit
It had been a long time since I visited the Ship, which used to be a bit of an old-man pub (which was fine by me) but what an amazing transformation (even finer by me). The refurb has let the light in and the place feels less cramped. The fully vegan menu left us with a very decent choice of delicious sounding options. We had a family birthday meal here, and despite most of them being die-hard carnivores, everyone was happy with the food. The only mild criticism was that the extra chillies requested on the Thai noodle bowl could have been hotter. Actually one of the small children in our party, a notoriously picky eater, was reluctant to try anything on the menu, however the parents had anticpated that and brought an alternative. Everyone else wolfed down their dishes and said it was delicious. We ate Winter pie, Thai noodle bowl, battered tofu 'n' chips, pie of the day - mushroom I think - and courgette spaghetti with cashew pesto. And chocolate tart and ice cream. Yum. We had initially been asked to order in advance but rubbishly we weren't quite organised enough to do so, which the staff said would be fine, though one person didn't have his first choice as a result. We did have a longer wait to be served than expected, but as we'd been in touch beforehand to book the table, the staff kindly gave us a free round of drinks and one of the desserts free as well. They were super helpful and friendly, remaining calm and patient despite a very busy, deservedly packed venue. Local art on the walls too, including some from the staff. The Ship is in one of my favourite parts of town and it's well worth a visit.
Pros: Lovely food, strong menu, Great location & atmosphere, Friendly, helpful, professional staff
Cons: I'm told not all the beer taps were vegan

I don't think I gave the ship justice as. I was grabbing a quick lunch during working hours.
I went for the nachos, which were full of beans with a chipotle sauce. I would liked to have had a proper main, but time was pressing.
menu completely vegan, and some certified vegan bevvie!
Pros: nice staff, good food
Cons: a tad cold (the room not the food)

Under his nose was a dream come true - Edit
Vegan Blancmange? It could happen. The Ship Inn is located in the wonderful Ouseburn. A very special part of the city, tucked away down river from Newcastle. I've known about the Ship Inn's vegan kitchen for quite some time and today presented a perfect opportunity to visit. This is traditional English pub grub at a superior level. We had the fish and chips and quesidilla. The 'fish' were beautifully battered pieces of tofu wrapped in seaweed and deep fried. The quesidilla was outstanding. Lots of avocado and kidney beans plus a secret ingredient of peanut butter. The secret is now out. The food took a while to arrive which shows it's prepared with care and attention. Two main courses, a pint of beer and a glass of wine came to a fair £24. It was too early for gin, but if you're into your juniper like I am there is quite an exceptional selection available including the fantastic Monkey 47 from the Schwarzwald. Here comes the Summer.
Pros: vegan kitchen, great beers, Location

Great pub grub - Edit
The Ship is a traditional pub serving great pub food, it's fantastic that the menu if fully vegan and hopefully they will omit the option of calf's milk for drinks and some non vegan alcoholic beverages in the future. It's in a nice setting and the chips are really delicious. I wish the Ship was my local, I would visit all of the time.
Pros: fully vegan menu, tasty food, good value

Delicious and Filling - Edit
We came for lunch when visiting Seven Stories. The menu is hearty pub grub. All home made, I'd say. I had quesadilla which was flavoursome, serve with salad and chunky chips. My daughter had pie and chips and my son, bangers and mash. Those two have massive appetites but were both sated, a rare thing! The bar staff and other customers were incredibly friendly, the pub is smart and clean. I'll have to return when I'm able to sample some of their wide range of ales!

No breakfast - Edit
We came back here after coming to early the day before. Expected a vegan breakfast but we didn't get what we thought we would get. A nice change though from a fry up. The quesadillas were a great choice before our journey home.
Pros: Tasty food, Large portions
Cons: No fry up

Delicious dinner - Edit
Delicious Sunday dinner, nut roast or red onion Wellington, fantastic veg and gravy. Lovely hosts and service, a bold move to a plant-based kitchen that deserves to be supported.

The good Ship vegan - Edit
Excellent pub located in the vibrant Ouseburn area, which now offers an excellent choice of vegan dishes such as an all day breakfast, soup, Thai spiced black bean burger, avocado smash, chickpea curry, chili, nachos, quesadillas and bar tapas options to name a few. Prices are inexpensive ranging from £4.95-£6.95 and you can get 3 tapas dishes for £7. We decided to get the delicious Thai spiced black bean burger, which was accompanied by homemade chips, tomato sauce dip and a light salad. As well as the tasty food they also have vegan cider, wine and beers available such as Jack rabbit wine and westons cider with stella, blue moon and kozel on tap. This is a great place to spend the day especially if the sun is shining with plenty of outside seating available. Always a great atmosphere here too.
