Vegan food in Baler - Edit
Filipino and Indian food, with several vegetarian options on the menu (within and outside of the vegetarian section on the menu). Most vegetarian dishes can be veganized. The owner is often around and very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The restaurant staff do not seem to fully be aware what vegan is, and the do make mistakes, and are 100% unresponsive to feedback (which seems to be typical for the region?). We got served rotten tofu (we had coincidentally bought tofu at the central market that day, completely rotten, smelled like sewage), to which the staff responded by saying "OK". They left it on the table and still put it on the bill, but removed it after we insisted. I would recommend to clearly state and explain with every item you order that it should vegan, no egg, no dairy, and then state again that all the food should be vegan, no egg, no dairy. This may still not be enough, but they are likely to mostly get it right. They also forgot some items we ordered, and several items were not as described on the menu (which to me doesn't matter as long as the food is vegan). Portions are a bit small, and prices are low. Most of the veganizable dishes are Indian style (e.g. chana masala, tandoori vegetables, chapatis, rice), but there's also ensalada talong (Filipino, but fried eggplant whoch isn't typical), "katchumber salad", hummus, moutabal. Despite the issues mentioned above, this is a comfortable, great place, worthy of support (I think), the only place that serves vegan food in Baler (?).
