They Tried - Edit

Friendly staff, tried their best to accommodate my being vegan, except this took 5 separate conversations throughout the hour or so spent there. They simply didn't know what vegan meant, or what was vegan on their menu.
Turned out after all the effort none of the beer available from Bath Ales is vegan friendly, so ended up consuming/contributing to the use of animal products regardless! (Checked using barnivore.com - excellent website!) Also as the bean burger came with (non-vegan) beer battered onion rings too...
We didn't go on a Sunday, so didn't get the roast the previous review mentions, honestly wouldn't bother attempting it if it's a weekday!
So, all in all, helpful staff, not really any vegan food/drink without a lot of effort!

Pros: Staff really wanted to help!, The concocted meal was good once it was sorted

Cons: Staff don't know what's vegan, Bath Ales aren't vegan

Well done to The Salamander! - Edit

We've eaten in The Salamander twice recently.

First time was for a vegan Sunday lunch. The food was excellent, an individual mixed bean roast with (almost) all the trimmings. The roast potatoes were superb, really crispy and a selection of seasonal veg. No vegan Yorkshire puddings though, but not many places have managed that yet! On the day, the portion of gravy was almost embarrassingly small, but they were happy to replenish. There staff were wonderful and really interested in feedback which was given around yorky puds and gravy portion.

The other time we visited was a vegan only evening put on especially for the local vegan group. This was a three course dinner with choices for each course. I think it was giving the kitchen staff an opportunity to try some vegan dishes.

Again the food was excellent. It was quality food full of interesting tastes and textures. This is real food, not something cooked in a factory and heated up in the pub like you get elsewhere.

Full marks to the kitchen.

I understand they always have vegan options on the menu, but with a couple of days notice they will increase the choice on the day you visit.

Thoroughly recommend this place, let us hope they get enough vegan trade to keep the options on the menu.

An ideal location if you need to eat with carnists too.

Pros: Quality food, Vegan beers and wines known and offered
