Super Fresh, Super Helpful Staff

We stopped here while in town for a work event. It is the only place on HappyCow and we were surprised by how delicious this spot was. We often get Snappy Salads and love the fresh and fast concept of build your own salad🥗.

This is a small family owned restaurant. The salad is self serve and is weighed at check out. We actually really like that it is self serve as opposed to advising a staff member of your preferences.

It is more expensive than Snappy Salads but less expensive than many other salad places.
$10.05 Salad 🥗 for 1.36lbs ($7.39/lb). We did get less than we usually get (about half of the to go container) because we weren't sure of the cost.

The quality of vegetables here was outstanding. They also had fruit, beans, nuts and vegetables. We especially enjoyed the fresh avocado, herbed garlic (super delicious), red bell pepper (so fresh) and fire roasted mix (corn, peppers and black beans).

We asked a staff member which salad dressing options were non dairy thinking perhaps they would be confused by 'vegan' as is often the case. We were pleasantly surprised that Kevin brought out nutritional information including a notation for vegan! He allowed us to take a photo which is uploaded.

VEGAN SALAD DRESSING OPTIONS:

Salad Dressings listed as Vegan:
Apple Cider Vinegar
Avocado
Basalmic Vinegrette
Balsamic Vinegar
Honey Dijon (didn't ask if it actually had Honey, but we assumed it did, so not vegan)
House Peppercorn
Italian
Lemon Vinegrette
Raspberry Vinegrette
Red Wine Vinegar
Salsa
Sesame Ginger
Strawberry Vinegrette

Their to go container is compostable and recyclable. They also have a reusable Dine In Wood/Bamboo Bowl.

$2.00 Drink
They had several selections for drink options also. We enjoyed the Hibiscus Strawberry. It was slightly sweet but not overly sweet.

We returned later that day for another salad and this time used the restroom. We were shocked at the state. It was quite dirty and the soap dispenser was more water than soap. It makes one wonder if the staff actually wash their hands.
It was quite slow, I think there were two, maybe three other customers besides us. There is really no reason for this. It makes us wonder how the food prep area is maintained. It seems they have no issue cutting corners. Where do they draw the line?

Hopefully they attend to the bathroom in the future.

Burger King with the impossible burger is another option in town albeit a much less healthy one.

Pros: Super Fresh, Build yourself, then weigh, Get the herbed garlic, yum 😋 , Veggies, hummus, beans, seeds, nuts and fruit

Cons: Dirty restrooms, soap watered down

Good Salad Bar

We ate here in 2017. There were good, fresh, delicious vegan items to choose from besides just veggies. There were 2 kinds of hummus, sun-dried tomatoes, Greek olives, avocados, artichokes, chick peas and black beans, among other things. They also had both white potatoes and sweet potatoes under the heat lamp...the sweet were really good but the white ones were under there too long. It was close to closing time so we didn’t bother asking for fresh ones.

Pros: Plenty of Vegan Items, Food is fresh

Cons: Can get expensive by the pound

Your best bet in this area

I use the Happy Cow app when I'm on the road, and I was very unhappy when I approached Hammond, Louisiana, and there were absolutely no vegan or veg-friendly restaurants listed. I checked my GPS, and it listed this one, The Salad Station. We gave it a shot, and it was good. They have fresh baked potatoes, and an extensive salad bar with lots of vegan items. You pay for your food by the pound.

Pros: Lots of vegan items on the salad bar, Friendly staff
